You would be better off starting your own thread for this as it bears no relation to the original post in this one.👍

Ferry prices ex-mainland are rising exponentially - this has stopped us from bringing the motorhome over in recent years

It is a long way to travel from Devon, unless the 90 day limit does not affect you

We come to Tenerife most February and we’re here now. We have researched the idea of bringing the van but as already suggested the ferry cost is too high unless you want to do a winter here. There are lots of vans here now, mostly Spanish, German and a very few British. Wild camping is a no no but there are plenty of authorised places and a few campsites which I’m told are very good. There’s plenty of info if you google it. Good Luck.

Motorhoming since 2006, 30 years tent camping in Africa
When we went there we were surprised at the number of motorhomes.
When I got the chance I chatted to Kevin and Nurcan of "GB Motorhomes Tours" (we know them).
They have taken whole groups out there, apparently very successfully.
I have no idea of costs or where they took ferries from.

Lots but slow learner.
Looks like the ferries go from Cadiz.
One sailing £1,350. all the rest £1,850 return.
31 hours.
Seems pointless considering the island is not very big.

My understanding is Ferry is 45 hours ish expensive and then you need camping places. I have a friend who has been with GB tours and enjoyed it butcquite limited.

You would probably have more choices in Morocco, ferry is 90 minutes and circa €250 open return.

Getting Better
Just had a look on google maps (satellite) and only found one campsite and the area for campers/caravans was a carpark,
But lots of evidence of parking up in many’s places, some busy and some very much out of the way, there are some very nice villages by some beautiful bays that don’t see tourists…😎

Ten years
I would’ve thought hiring on the island would be much cheaper.

Been around the block a few times😉
Boarding the Albayzin ferry at Cadiz to Lanzarote (35 hrs) it then carries on to the other islands, only stopping at Fuerteventura on the return sailing, hence the reason we overnighted in the campervan at Costa Teguise before catching the 30 minute ferry to Fuerteventura.

I believe there is also a ferry from the west coast of Morocco, might be cheaper and one can be out of Schengen for a while in transit.

Has been our intention for recent visits, but .....
Sadly the last ferry between southern Morocco and the Canary Islands went aground just off Tarfaya back in 2008 - knew people whose car is still sitting there
Search 'Armas Assamala'
The Spanish have been talking about re-instatement in the media ever since but unfortunately, as with everything Canarian it is 'manana' (or the year after)
(Apparently - Tarfaya has even had its harbour rebuilt with European money - but the stumbling block is rumoured to be the enclaves of Melilla / Cueta)

As an add on we have visited a camp site today in Tenerife called camping Nauta near costa silencia. Wasn’t the quality of mainland Spain sites but ok. 3 Brit vans there and one suggested that it’s the best on the island. The facilities looks good as does the pool and club house. Costs around 500 euros for a month. We pay around £2000 for a month in an apartment, that includes flights. Not much in it but a longer stay in the Moho the better. The area wasnt great but you can go anywhere on Tenerife by bus and there’s loads to see, especially if you like walking or hiking. Hope this helps.

19 month year 18000 miles UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Italy. Campsites and off Grid.
Have done it twice with gb tours & had a great time. Went in January through to end of march, winter sun at its best. Yes not cheap, but what is with a motorhome?!?! Give it a try, your only here once!!!!

Tell you what though - it's dead cheap without one. Cheap flights, cheap accommodation, cheap car hire. I've been many times and it's a great destination to explore (As long as you keep away from Playas de las Americas) but I don't really see the point in doing it in a motorhome.

It was, wasn't it.

Brian kindly bumped the original post up to the top of the list not once, but twice.

I hope he gets an answer to his spare wheel question.

Possibly a lack of understanding of how a forum works. He did say he was new here.

There are noticeably more motorhomes here that last time we came 5 years ago. Only ones then we really saw were at the aire in los Christianos.

We are in Puerto do la Cruz. Loads in the seafront car park
