With all the discussion on weights and the likelihood that many vans rated at 3.5t gross are in fact substantially overweight, I've found a way of getting a free weight analysis every year. Please excuse me if I'm repeating what people know already.
On the last MOT I had last year, there was a printout of the brake performance, eg kg of force for each wheel to lock. Also, there's not only a readout of the gross weight, but also of each axle weight, and each wheel weight. I don't recall seeing this on earlier MOTs prior to 2018. I also remember that there has been previous discussion on the accuracy of garage weighbridges, but I'd have thought that to assess braking performance a calibrated weighbridge would be required.
So, it seems that loading up your motorhome to close to maximum weight, would give you the required information to make an assessment as to whether you are legal or not. It appears that mine is within 29kg of it's maximum GVW.

MOT is due this month will load up close to operating weight to be sureI'm not sure what the state was last year. Pretty sure I will be a bit overweight, so probably uprate.

I had the MOT on Monday and no weight detail was recorded so it may vary from garage to garage.

It depends on the equipment the MoT garage is using for the braking test. I did get that readout once but the test is done at a different place now. It might be available if you ask though.

I used to carryout commercial brake tests on the MOT bake tester, I wouldn't take the weight reading as gospel that these machines give, the weights it use to give were not accurate. Run a truck across the tester 2 times and you would get 2 different weight readings, only foolproof way is a weighbridge.

And the more you weigh the higher the brake performance will have to be to PASS:Eeek:

I used to take my 7500kg RV to Beverley council depot for MOT and only once get the axle weights from the rollers written down after asking for them.
From memory.....
Front axle around 650kg.... Yes, 650kg
Rear axle around 3500kg

Front engine.... The 6.8ltr V10 engine and auto 4 speed gearbox alone would weigh 650kg
Nearer true weights would have been front 2500kg and rear at least 4500kg.
