A fantastic aire at Compregnac near Peyre, just North West of the bridge. My favourite aire and free. Phil

The aire in Millau itself not only doesn’t have a view of the bridge but it is just about the least attractive location of any aire we have been to, and it’s not even free 😳

when the bridge was being built they created some excellent viewing points , not sure if they have been saved they would make brilliant overnight spots 👍

we did a rather challenging drive up to a village between Millau and the bridge , several hairpins , got to a parking spot at the top with decent views but no overnight parking 🤔

That's torn it! Elaine has been on at me since the bridge opened to visit the area, and with a free aire available, I've got no excuse ... It does look quite stunning!

It is splendid. From the north service area and from the old visitor centre under it.
Thanks, D&S. The visit will happen sooner rather than later, perhaps on the way down to Spain this year! The last 24 hours has threatened the trip, with a Jury Service Citation, Flu Jabs and COVID Booster at the front end and Car MOT/Service at the other, so not getting too excited until we can get firm dates sorted out!

Yes tkk we have used Camping Les Rivages and pitched adjacent the river with a full view of the viaduct. However we now tend to use Camping Les Erables, no view but much closer to the town on foot.

The best views I’ve found of the viaduct & the gorge locally is from a viewpoint with smallish car park on the top of the gorge. It is on the D809 main road out of the town heading south and on the left so you’d have to go past it and turn around to be able to drive into the parking area.

Coming from the south is easier as you don’t have to turn around but need to keep an eye out for it on a big left hand bend with big descent. From this point the views of all the gorge & viaduct are spectacular & you can walk away from the car par to the better viewing points. Check for it in google earth so you can see what I mean about access, I think it may come up as Punto Panoramico or Point du vue sur Millau 😊

PS We’ve even managed to get our 8m van in the car park when it wasn’t too full and reversed it to the end so we could drive out again

It’s on my list of to do‘s, I really want to go over the bridge and get some photos of it one year when we go down to Spain. Nikki is not so keen as she hates bridges especially high ones. But we are going to do it. (y)

We used to do it a few times a year when we had a place in Thuir near Perpignan. I never tired of driving it. Awesome sight and a beautiful piece of civil engineering.

Millau is a lovely town, well worth a wander round.
