ohh lovely!!! coming up next week for a spin ; ill make sure we have the " face veils"!!!!!!
Suggest you upgrade to a kevlar space suit as the wee blighters were just sharpening their teeth on me so they'll munch through your veil in milliseconds!

Usually not till end of May. Bad luck to get them n Glasgow now. Smidge is good. You can also get an ever so attractive midge net ... either on its own or integrated into a hat. Sometimes essential on west coast.

All the right conditions were there. Had been raining (well wee showers), windless and then started to warm up. Just as the sun was setting, whoopee guys let's go get the bu**er!:cry:

Get plenty of Marmite down you, vitamin B6 apparently it stops them biting, A Scot advised this, I was going to visit the land of the Haggis but never made it.

After surviving Arisaig and the Isle of Skye last May, then back to Arisaig last summer, without a bite, Smidge has taken over from Skin So Soft for me.

I do that by default anyway, the little barstewards still think I'm a delicacy.

Just my luck, the only type of female that finds me totally irresistible

Smidge for us!

Do not forget to close your heater vents completely, or put the source on recirculate, before you park up in midge country. The little buggers will find any way in, no matter how convoluted!!! If you have a Fiat chassis, you might also want to block off the two vents underneath to cab!

Smidge is the only one we found to keep the little dears away - also, understood that they changed the Avon formula a while ago, so new purchases may not work!!

The classic mistake which lots of people make is to open the hab door at night with a light on inside & even an awning light draws them to the hab door.

The snow and northerlies that we have had yesterday and today have slowed them down... so you can sit outside in your shorts and not be bothered :ROFLMAO:.

Last time we ( my son, a mate and me ) did Scotland on the bikes I took a bottle of Avon with me.. It seemed they enjoyed the taste !
Darrell spent over £40 in all sorts of snake oil in chemists.. ]
We was VERY grateful as it attracted the midges away from us.
We bought 'midge hats' which worked very well indeed

One thing that we say that DID work.
A couple of times we saw folk get out litte wood burners.
Got them going nicely and then put wet wood on them
Whole camp site wreathed in smoke but all the midges disappeared !!!

Only thing that ever worked for me was drinking a lot of whisky and not washing. I'm not sure that the whisky helped with the midges, but it did stop me worrying about not having washed myself ;)

Yes but they still have to bite you before they realise they don't like marmite

did they bite your dogs?

Our dog is low to the ground and when she's been out in massive attacks (Glenelg on west coast) she got bitten on her belly and around her nose. The areas were swollen but they were fine again by the morning. We did get some prednisolone from the vet in case it happened again but we've never had to use it.

I took antihistamine for a week before We went up the west coast. I was bitten , with no reaction, a horse fly had me and still no reaction. I normally swell up. Check with your doctor first though.

It has to be the original one in the blue bottle.

Amazon product ASIN B002MDAOSQ
Interesting you should say that.
When we had our Guest House in Oban we had a senior manager from Avon stay with us.
Now, at the time all of the forestry workers used the original and swore by it, but when they changed the bottle it meant that they had also changed the ingredients.
Apparently the original, although very effective, also contained something it shouldnt have so was removed....hence the change of bottle design.

PS No matter how much of the wifes 12 year old malt I poured in to him he would not tell me more.

So the answer is either.. Get so pissed that you dont care or Smidge
or in my case .....Both!
