Just discovered mouse droppings in my motorhome. Have removed everything washable, vacuumed, scrubbed with disinfectant and tested gas, water and electricity, all working. Removed remnants of 2 bags of dog treats which I had left in by mistake. I have a smartcharger on my battery in the passenger footwell and had to remove covers. There are holes to the outside. Any advice to prevent this happening again.

Try mice traps x2, first rubbed with soil to remove the human touch/smell, forget cheese, try roasted nut on the it, they love the irresistible smell.

Merry Xmas

They love snickers bars. Get a few traps then put some talc on the floor and you might see where they are getting in.

I've had mice in my van in the last 3 weeks. I set some traps inside where they have been and also set some bated traps by each wheel as I assumed that they would be climbing the wheels. The external traps caught 4 in the first 2 days but nothing in the internal ones.
I'm checking every 2 days but nothing in the last 7 days so fingers crossed I've eveicted them.

Keep the traps there, otherwise they may do an Arnie, "I will be back"

Mice can be a real problem. Back in our caravanning days I unloaded a very expensive caravan awning into our garage after a long trip for just a few days and the mice bored a hole into it to make a home.

Nutella spread on two traps....bam clonk you'l find the pesky devil trap down with a broken neck, unless of course it comes down on its head in which case you'l be wiping its brain and bits of scull off your floor. Lovely lol

Wasted your time disinfecting everything if it's still in there or able to get in there.
but yes, had the furry little bastards in mine a month ago, bought some stainless steel mesh off Amazon and an electric staple gun and led under the motorhome and stapled mesh over all my vent holes..
They made a nest right in the middle of the matress cover and into the matress on mine ???

I leave a couple of baited traps in when not using van and the old camphoros moth balls in small trays under van.Had them in loft at home and leave mothballs in all time (but not in MH as it smells strong.)

We had a forecourt shop, many years ago, & if mice got in, the first thing on their menu was Kit Kat's even though they were on a high shelf. First thing I checked every morning was the Kit Kat's for damaged foil.

The mice have came up in the world since waaay back then :xrofl: I had vending machine business and sure as anything the snickers were favourite.

I spray bleach under the motorhome and plug in an electronic deterrent into the 240 (mines on ehu)

Our mice like a change of diet------ I use peanut butter----- nuttella (or a cheap version)------- then superglue grain on---- all work very well--------++ when I want to make them go somewhere else I use hot chilli powder --they don't seem too keen on that!!!

I would like to add 2 more recommendations to the list, as well as placing baited traps in the van, here are two deterants that I heard about recently from a reliable source.
1. Place tumble dryer scented sheets in cupboards, apparently they dont like the smell of em.
2. cotton wool balls soaked in peppermint oil, leave them in all the ground level cupboards, should make the van smell fresh also.
PS: the large caravan storage place we used to use, had placed electronic devices in the hedges around the storage area, also in the undercover storage sheds, I didn't ever hear of a mouse problem from any storage clients, so I guess they must work as it was also a working farm with many outbuildings.
Good luck, let me know how it goes.

I've had rats in my van on two occasions. One was in an Asda car park when I was using the Scudo to drive around, and the Convoy to live in. The rat chewed through the sender cable for the fuel gauge. The problem was that it was under the dash, and it took a long time to track down the fault. The other one was near a McDonalds, and I was on an unused industrial estate parking lot. The McD customers used to park there, and throw the inedible food out of their car windows.

In both cases, I managed to disturb the animals, but the long term solution was to move the van. They seem to be social animals, and don't like having to walk several miles to get back to their friends. I'm not sure if that is true for mice though. I had a friend who owned a coach hire business, and he had major problems with rats and mice chewing through electrical cables. They seem to get a buzz from doing it.

We’ve had Rats in the engine bay Of our MH in the past and just recently, they were evicted both times by hubby with a stick and a Terrier. Peppermint oil/flavouring seems to help once they’re out!
We’ve also had a mouse inside the MH whilst asleep in there, once again the Terrier did it!

I've just got our MH back from the garage after having it repaired due to mouse damage, they'd eaten through some of the fuel lines and stared to nest in the soundproofing under the bonnet. Fortunately not sign of them inside but a bill for £750 for the repairs !

It's parked at a Cassoa storage area (a farm) and the owners tell me they've used more poison and traps this year than ever before ' it's due to the weather'. Its back in storage and the engine bay is liberally sprayed witrh this -

The Big Cheese Anti Rodent 300 ml Lacquer (Surface Treatment, Deters Rats and Mice, Poison-Free, 6 Months Protection)

and the area around and under the MH with this -

Exterminators Choice Mice Defense 0.9L Repellent Deterent Spray. All Natural-For All Types of Mice

I'll be checking regularly and I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Last year we had a plague of mice around our property---- I set up several bucket traps and good mouse traps in all vulnerable places including under the bonnet of one of our cars--- over the winter we caught hundreds as did our neighbour------ not nearly as bad this year just one every day or so.
It is thought that the wild fires we suffered wiped out most preditors but they are slowly coming back along with the trees!!!!!

A couple of years ago we had a mouse travel with us from Scotland to Austria. Every night we heard the mouse running about. We eventually bought traps, but it still took us a couple of days to catch it. Cheese was left but chocolate did the trick.

As for bait in traps.. Peanut butter is THE best, I thought that was quite well known but obviously not.. :D
Yep, NOTHING to touch peanut butter, 2 bucket traps outside of the van, two little ramps with a very thin smearing of peanut butter, and some on the tin at the top, average about 50 mice a year, not one inside since I started doing this :xThumb:

I'm living in hope that they are so happy in the garage that the van doesn't appeal
