Metro 6R4 Replica build from start to finish.

I started one, never finished it, always look back and wonder how many events I could have gone to and where I would be now if I had stuck with it but I was 17-18 and an idiot. :D

a brilliant bit of engineering well done, but a couple of questions

Why?
where did they find a rust free metro?
what is the point of wasting all that skill?

Because some of us can.... It's fun.
I ended up fabricating for a career so it has not been wasted. and to keep my toes wet in the performance car field I worked as a rolling road operator and engine builder for a motorsport firm for 10 years.
Neither career pays well but I like it and there's a LOT to be said to enjoy going to work every day.
I could not do a job that I hated every day til I retire, I think that would send me insane.

go to any auto grass club to see much the same configuration used in many shells with engines up to supercharged v8s

Just in case you are wondering, heres an R64 at Goodwood Festival of Speed Hill climb this year.
If you dont want to hear the whole story skip to 9.30 mins as the runs starts from there.
It reminds me a recent trip in The Highlands through the woods looking for wilding spots with no fear of getting nagged at from OH for going too fast, as you cannot hear her(y):D

As I remember it the only thing Metro on the 6R4 was the name and a very vague resemblance.
Spaceframe chassis with a fiberglass shell.

I think you misunderstood, the engineering and resulting vehicle is great. it's just the thought of using a crappy metro for the bodyshell

Just watched this short film on a Metro 6R4 replica build, so if your tech minded like me I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Interesting but ultimately disappointing , gone to all that effort , and then builds it as 2wd ?

Awsome. I’ve just bought a metro to do the very same thing, I’ll be dropping a noble engine in with an Audi b5 box, yours looks mint, congrats to you on a great build,
Phil.

If you want car engineering at it’s finest you need to watch Project Binky from Bad Obsession Motorsport..... it’s about putting a Toyota GT4 engine and running gear into an original mini. Absolutely compelling viewing if your an engineering enthusiast! 33 episodes and counting!! Awesome!!

Cheers!

How about building a Sleeper Car?, one that looks original, until you look under the skin.
I like what this American guy Paul Reynolds has done to a 1973 VW Bug, I am sure you will also.(y)
He is quite an engineer with other projects also.

Part 1: The reveal, go back and see the challenges he had to overcome to get it finished.

Absolutely fantastic. Would have been nice with a Goodmans lump in the rear.
He could have a business right there. I’d buy one.

Did anyone catch Fuzz Townsend doing that 6R4 on Car SOS?

Her gear changing made me cringe must have been her first time with a manual box.

That 6r4 run reminds me of when me, the missus and two kids went across the Kielder Forest Leisure drive sideways in my V8 Mercedes! She was screaming at me to slow down and the kids were in the back laughing their heads off!
I must add that I did rally driving many moons ago and was in my element. She never forgave me for it! :giggle:
Its not as easy in an auto with a foot operated handbrake and hand release though. That must’ve been at least 15 years ago and the kids ( now grown adults ) still laugh about it. Now divorced too! (y)

That’s my mate Ian Oddie’s car. He’s a phenomenal engineer. You should see what he achieves with 26cc RC engines. He’s also multiple world champion in large scale RC racing.

What gearbox did you mount the engine to by the way? Would like some tips as we are currently building a rep 6r4. Real respect by the way what a beautiful build
