Can anyone advise?
I’ve just checked the plate on my Benimar Tessoro, owned since March & noticed the MPW is shown as 3550kg, my V5C shows the MPW as 3500kg. Is this 50kg differential likely to cause problems?

Which plate are you looking at? The converters plate will supersede the chassis manufacturers plate but you will be limited by whats on the V5.

If its the manufacturers plate it's got to be one of two things.... A miss-stamp.. Two 5s rather than 2 zeros or a badly stamped zero looking like a 5.

I simply cannot see any manufacturer bothering with an extra 50kg and this has never been brought up before by other members.

Most manufacturers keep the weight to 3500 because of needing C1 on your driving license to drive anything over that weight.
As others have said you need to look at the converters plate.

Or, being as it's a Benimar, it could be a 3300 kg chassis. Most here are odd weights. 3200, 3250 3300,3350 3400.3150.
there's even coachbuilts on 1tonne & 1400 kg pay load chassis.

Problem for the OP is that if he is stopped by dvsa or whatever it's called now , 3550 needs a C1:rolleyes: they only look at the plates & he is hardly likely to be carrying the v5 unless going abroad.

They will verify the weight with the DVLA database even after checking the plate if they suspect something is not right.
They are going to look foolish prosecuting only to be told in court, by the government department in charge of motor vehicles, it is 3500kg.

Well Steve, my advise after reading Gus-lopez reply, is stop using it until its true weight is verified.
It's possibly incorrectly registered meaning your insurance is incorrect and invalid, your road fund licence is incorrect and invalid and unless you have C1 category on your licence you don't have a licence to drive it.

The plate is on the inside of the passenger door, it’s definitely 3550, very clear. The V5C shows 3500, I have it with me touring in Scotland. I have C1 on my license but am concerned about insurance etc. As far as I’m concerned I was sold a MH with max weight of 3500kg and will be contacting them asap

That would normally be the converters plate in the door. What does the manufacturers plate , under the bonnet on the slam panel usually, show ?

If it is the converters plate in the door then the registering dealer mis-registered it at first registration and probably used the manufacturers plate under the bonnet or simply entered 3500kg on the form without looking.
It's their responsibility to get it right and theirs alone

Believe it or not, there are some 7500kg plus American RVs out there registered as 3500kg on the V5... Some unscrupulous dealers don't give a :swear2: if they get a sale.

The plate in the door says 3550kg, not sure which this is but the plate under the bonnet which says Benimar on it says 3500kg and the V5C says 3500kg

What base is your vehicle on ? Fiat,Peugeot, Renault, etc, There should be a plate from them fixed with blind rivets .
You should be ok though as the Benimar one, being the converter would be last & that ties up with the V5.

The second plate (Benimar) takes priority as the 2nd build, Ford is the first build, so your V5 is correct.
You could uprate back to 3550kg as a paper exersize and pay £165 Road tax but then some lower speed limits and higher European tolls.

Thanks everyone for input/advice. I’m
Happy with 3500kg was just worried about the differential & legality regarding license, insurance, road tax, toll class, speed limits etc. Thanks again, great forum
