I am thinking of buying a maxfan for the bedroom in my van. Any info on connecting to the 12v system to hide the wires (roof insulation). There is 12v socket about 18 inches away. Thanks for any help

Very simple two wires +/-.
I used a 10" strip of 5mm plastic trunking to hide wires.
Could possibly have hidden them but it works as is.

I have just installed one. Top notch 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I was really really happy to find a duct containing switch live and neutral in my Adria.

it’s worth the work.

if I hadn’t found the cables in a duct I had planned to gently push a flexible rod through the insulation which I don’t think would have been that difficult.

Before pushing a rod through the insulation drill a target hole through the ceiling inside a locker. Use a hole saw with great care (start the hole then continue without the pilot drill by hand). Choose the hole size to fit whatever you'll use to blank the hole. Cut down small aerosol caps are good. It's a lot easier than it sounds and much better than surface wiring.

Ours was put in by a fitter, however the way he did it I watched. The roof and walls of the Rapido are a blue foam sandwiched between two aluminium sheets. The chap pushed a metal rod through the foam between the roof vent aperture and the wardrobe and then pulled wires through using the rod, the foam just closed up around the wires. Connected into the lighting circuit by the wardrobe light.

Andy 2 questions. 1) Is it a job for a competent DIYer. 2) what model did you fit

Thanks Derry

Yes ,especially if you have an existing 40 x 40cm then it is a direct swop.
I fitted the 7000K140 white deluxe. clear lets in far mor light though.
I think jollyrodger also installed the blind unit as well.

Thank you all. I think I will try threading the wire through the roof insulation.

I removed my 400x400mm bathroom roof vent, and my 400x400 heki across to my bathroom from my kitchen. I then fitted the Maxxfan into the kitchen 400x400 hole. The worse part of the job was cleaning the old sealer off all the parts. If just taking one out, cleaning the area, and installing a new Maxxfan then the job is very very easy. I used petrol and rags to clean off all the black sealer once scraping off the worse with a bladed scraper. The wires need to be run when you have nothing in the hole. As you can see from my pic there is a sandwich of insulation, and this wouldn’t be that difficult to run two small cables through, given a bit of time and some patience.

The job is worth while. The Maxxfan is a great feature to have.

I went for the clear (which is smoked, not completely clear), and I also fitted the blind inside. I did not go for the internal blind with lights as they are cool white, unlike the warm that I’ve
put everywhere else.

If you surface mount the cable, you could use D trim for trunking. My ceiling has D trim and found out you could hide 2x 1,5mm wires inside above the capping. The maxxfan is great, went for clear top as well. The roller blind tends to jump of the rail if you got a airtight van. Mine does it when I shut the side door.
