Hi all, like many people I am a complete novice to motorhomes but need some advice, we have bought a 2005 fiat Ducato 18JTD XLWB. I am struggling with the max payload we are allowed, I have a C1 license up to 7.5 ton. Attached is a couple of photos, one the manual and the other the plate in the engine, any advice would be appreciate.

thanks
Paul

You have posted pictures of the Fiat base vehicle, there should be another one somewhere put on by the convertor which you should work from.Although you can only get accurate figures by taking it to a weighbridge👍

As rb62 has said there will be a converters weight plate somewhere try door pillars or near Fiat plate.
looking at fiat plate Max gross is 3500 kg so weighbridge required it’s important to get separate front and rear axle weights as well as you cannot exceed them

Good that’s your convertors plate Max GVW 3850 so you’ve got a bit more to play with but your. Axle weights are the important bit 1850 front & 2120 rear can’t be over weight on either so load up ready for a trip and get to a weighbridge. I usually weigh whole van and then just rear axle and deduct from whole to give front axle.😊 good luck

Maximum weight allowed is 3850
Max weight with towing 5500
Max front axle 1850
Max rear axle 2120

The only way of knowing if you are within limits is to go to a weighbridge.
edit: beaten to it!

As per the book in your previous photo then.
Max weight is 3800kg
Max train weight (with trailer or towed vehicle) 5500kg
The important part is also the axle weights, you mustn’t go over them even though you might be below the total weights.
Front 1850kg
Rear 2100kg.

It should also give your max weight on the V5.

Bought our m/home on Wednesday of this week and V5 arrived yesterday. No mention of axle weights, just a blanket 3500kg weight reference and a 2300cc engine, but who cares about accuracy and data inclusion? Not DVLA, obviously! No MTW mentioned ...

Fiat & Burstner Plates on m/home showing the missing data, and I'm around 600kg within GVW [haven't packed most of the kit yet, just 26.9kg of crockery and pans!] and the absent data at DVLA has been missing since the m/h was first registered in June 2016.
Might email DVLA to draw their attention to the omissions ...

So I won't need to trouble DVLA then, Lenny? I did wonder about the lack of info shown, both before the purchase [when I was checking DVLA to see whether the new MOT and Tax were showing yet] and after delivery on Wednesday.

A word of warning to those who take a chance and drive overweight.
Suffolk Police now have a team of traffic officers who frequently check weights on vehicles. They carry scales in their vehicles and are nicking a lot of unsafe and overweight vehicles.
Not seen motorhomes pulled so far, it’s all been commercials, but they are out there and keeping an eye on things. I assume other forces will be doing the same.

Looks to be the same as my swift sundance 630L .There is a claimed payload of about 550kgs but as mentioned the only way of knowing what payload you have available is to visit a weighbridge . You don’t appear or have an external wind out awning fitted which will help as they are quite heavy .

Sorry to throw fuel onto the fire.

Im working with a phone so pardon me if I've not got this right.
Is the VIN No. on the Swift plate the same as the Fiat plate?

As said, I'm working on very small images.

Ours has 'Fiat Ducato Grey Motor Caravan PLG Revenue Weight 3500kg gross max' and that's shallot as Percy Thrower was wont to say on 'Know Your Onions' ... A paucity of information personified [DVLA, not Percy Thrower ...]

What does the Mass in service say. It should be 'G' in the right hand column and below 'F1' which is your Max permissible mass.

Mass in service is the weight of the vehicle as built by the factory with factory fitted options, 75kg for the driver & 90% fuel.

G is blank, as is F1. The only reference to weight/mass is the Revenue Weight of 3500kg Gross at Para Y. Burstner Plate in the Van has the weights incl. those for the Axles.
