Not long enough!
Despite adding multiple padded mattress-toppers 'er indoors still finds the mattress in our Travel Van too hard and is in agony for the first couple of hours every morning. Can anyone recommend anywhere where I can get a decent memory foam mattress made to fit (or some other foam which is soft but still capable of disguising the slats on which it sits)?

We have just had a new mattress made by custom size beds, great service and a great product. Check them out. (y)

We too have been pondering a new mattress, we looked at custom size beds, and they have great feedback but we also checked out Made to measure mattresses and they do not only the foam mattresses like CSB, they also do pocket sprung mattresses in various luxury and firmness, at the moment we’re erring towards a pocket sprung mattress?

Be careful of the weight of the mattress if you have a lift-up bed.

One of our Funster friends had to replace his too-heavy new mattress, despite eating extra shredded wheat. ?

Hi
I think it was these people I used for some foam quite a while ago, they have moved premises.
They were very good. In Taunton which might help with samples/advice etc.

The OP could replace the wooden slats with the Froli mattress support system (mushroom style plastic flexible individual supports arranged in a grid pattern). The kit includes a selection of standard and softer mushrooms so you can arrange them to suit your requirements. The softer ones would normally be positioned around the hip and shoulder areas. Cost for a double is around £300. This system is used in high-end Carthago's.

My mattress is very firm on wooden slats and I'm seriosly considering installing this system. Feedback from Carthago Owners UK forum seems to be very positive.....from those who have had it retro-fitted and those who have it fitted as standard.

Have you tried an airbed over the mattress? I use one over the folded down seats in my mpv and get a great nights sleep, cheap as well. I found the rubberized fabric ones better then pvc.

We have a Duvalay memory foam topper made to measure , they also do replacement mattresses.Pricey but excellent and works even though we are heavy people.

We too have a Duvalay memory topper made for our van and it’s so comfortable in fact we’re thinking of getting one for our bed at home.

We got a Duvalay memory topper made as well after recommendations from here, the mattress was ok but not what I wanted for a good night's sleep, add the Duvalay topper and its lovely!

There may be another explanation as to why your wife wakes up feeling that way. I have a chronic back problem that always gets worse in bed. I tried swapping and changing mattresses for many year before I accepted that what ever I tried didn't make any difference. I read somewhere recently that many joints and discs 'close up' over night causing aches and pains in the mornings. Dehydration often makes it worse.

and immediately thought "That's a good deal!"

Many thanks for all the suggestions.
I think we can discount chronic back problems - as soon as we get home to our "softer" mattresses (we have a huge bed with twin mattresses) the problem disappears. As mentioned in the original post, we have tried mattress toppers to no avail. We don't specifically have a Duralay one, mostly as the salesman we spoke to at the NEC was so offhand we decided he obviously didn't want our money. However the ones we have are not cheap rubbish either.
I'm tempted to try the Froli system. If it doesn't work I'll pinch it for my side and talk to Made2measure and/or drive over to Taunton for advice.

We considered replacement foam cushions but instead went for the Froli system. Se are delighted with it , is very comfortable and easily adjusted. I thoroughly recommend it and It probably worked out cheaper than foam and if you tried it and didn't find it suitable you could easily return it if you bought it from Amazon or if not it would easily sell on Ebay of to a member here.
