Rally Chat Malvern Show Verses Bristol Balloon Fiesta

It would be easy for us as we don't like the Malvern show as much as others :)

Having said that, as we were at Bristol this year we will probably be elsewhere next year :)

We may be in the same dilemma as have enjoyed both hugely before! Have to make some tough choices as booking will be available soon for the shows... Malvern is a great big gathering of Funsters so good chance to catch up with some that never venture much further down south but the friendly spirit of the Funsters at the much smaller but well located Balloon Festival Rally this year was exceptional...
@Trikeman Any chance of another MHF Bristol Balloon Festival Rally at Cotham again this year please? Terry did say we were well behaved!

Oh my word........ what well we do............. have to have a long think about this one and of course a drink to help, Be back later

Well we have made our minds up it is going to be the balloon fiesta. We let Amanda have the casting vote :)
Anyone thinking of joining us will need to be thinking of going around the 8th or 9th of August so as to get a good position at the top of the farmers field . A few of you have already expressed an interest in going with us to this so Thought i would mention it early so you can put it on your 2016 calendar :) (y)(y)(y).
regards Kate

We meet on the farmers field just over the road as Amanda would not be able to walk from where you all met up last year. We did try to visit you but had to give up as it was up hill and we just could not push her up the hill on her walker. If Trikeman does do it again next yearw e may visit you all by taxi as we would have loved to have joined in some of the gatherings x Kate Bill & Amanda x

I'm sorry to have to break this to you Wombles but it was @Tootles and @cliffandger and @Silkcut1105 @ROB1CHELSEA1 , @chippy63 , @Taran_Las and us that he was basing his measure of well behaved, you, Joy, Debs and Kevin and the rest of the Ner-do-wells were well out of order, partying till god knows when; typical of MHFunsters I'd say.

Bummer; me and Sian said we wanted to make the balloon festival next year :(

whilst the meet its self was good i wouldn't bother with the balloon festival again ,one big funfair, food was dire and exspensive and spent hours waiting for women going to toilets

Hi Debs we stay on the farmers field have put a google map link for you . you do not have to book . If you are a member of the MCC they have a pre balloon meet plus a balloon meet on the same field but at the bottom . Have a look at the links. You do not have to Pre book :)

Shame sounds like you missed all the fun we have been having over the last 5yrs there . Never went to the fair the first 4yrs not enough time so much to see and do did go to it this time though as we had children with us and they wanted to go on a few rides. As for queing for the loo's we were parked in van over the road so we used to pop back :)

Hi @Ambilkate, I think from memory it's August not June.

We enjoyed both Gatcombe Farm and the Balloon Festival this year, staying with the MCC. We walked over to the Festival itself a couple of times but not in the evenings as we weren't impressed by the fairground. The balloons flying right over us on the camp site were great though (y)

Oy @Popeye - Phil @Taran_Las was not naughty, he was a good butler, although he did spill Jac's wine whilst pouring for us on a balmy, sunny early evening.... It wasn't cold at all......

Decisions.... Decisions ....... always wanted to do the Balloon Festival but missed Malvern last year .......

Not done Bristol, yet.

When you've done one show you've done them all.

Solution:

1. Go to Malvern show
2. Walk to top of Worcestershire Beacon
3. Look SW towards Bristol

Problem solved (y)

...assuming the weather's better than it was the last time I went up there

lol never thought of that thankyou :)

For anyone considering booking :
Not stayed there but Parsonage Farm is just across the road from the Festival so ideal for those who want to spend a lot of time there or don't want to walk far but judging by last years photos some of the balloons do get a bit close :)
Cotham Park RFC is a bit of a walk down & back but pleasant with fantastic views over Bristol from the golf course en route especially when lit up at night. Just take a torch & don't get lost in the woods at night like we did - thank goodness for MapME app. We did "rescue" another couple & nearly bumped into a deer so quite an adventure. Once you know the way it's really not difficult & fine on the Saturday night as crowds walking back to their cars that park in a field along from the RFC but very quiet on a Thursday. Trikeman & the RFC volunteers gave us a warm welcome & ran the camping area well from the beginning until we reluctantly left, were friendly & full of helpful local knowledge. The showers (separate for male & female) in the changing rooms are communal with plenty of hot water but not busy & there are toilets in the clubhouse. If the weather is unfavourable it is great to have the clubhouse bar area to gather along with the other campers & was almost to ourselves on the Sunday night. There are some pleasant walks from the RFC & it's nice location next to fields away from the hubbub of the Festival - quite a few on rallies at Cotham (other motorhomers & caravanners) didn't even go to the Festival just enjoyed meeting up with friends on the campsite so us Funsters :giggle:weren't the only noisy ones! Terry did tell us that we were some of the best campers that they had ever had :p so sure he would be happy to have us there for the Festival again. He suggested that Funsters could book out the whole campsite for a rally at another time with the use of the clubhouse area, showers & toilets if wanted ...
Think you can see that we are biased towards Cotham as it suited us better but know that Parsonage Farm is also very popular & people return year after year (y)
We would avoid the Festival on the Saturday night as it was packed & manic (heard that they closed the gates as getting dangerously full) but brilliant with the same Nightglow on the Thursday night. It is a good idea to take food & drinks & go at the less busy times if you can. We enjoyed the social gatherings, meeting & getting to know know more Funsters as much as the Festival.

Bristol is well worth a visit Brian. We had a great time this year.

They did - but very well controlled by the pilots :D

.....and it's quite an easy walk from Cotham into Clifton...... although a bit of a drag then walking back from the harbour area, just have to take your time (& don't do it on a red hot day, loaded with shopping & nothing to drink, like we did)
@Wombles ....brill post btw(y)

......and that was the highlight of the week-end for me. A wee dram or two with smashing people.....

@Popeye ........and just think......you could re-create that warm, fuzzy feeling if you'd have run the New Forest meet;)........

But there is no longer a Dorset meet to bridge with Bagwash and anyway I will be racing back from France to get up to York for the @Jez and Lin meet oooop noooorf.
