LV looks like motorhome insurance is finished

LV declined to offer renewal insurance for our car last year. They said it was due to increased thefts in the London area.
Apparently Lexus conveniently provided an OBD port under the front wing ! We have had it blocked off but still struggle to get insurance.

Out of interest do you have a motorhome only policy or a multicar ??

Mine not due for a while and i was already aware they havn't covered a single motorhome policy for some time.
Want to be prepared in case they are also finishing with multicar / motorhome.
I do have several insurances with them but not a multi car they are all separate😊

Just checked my LV= and there are no underwriters it’s Liverpool Victoria Insurance Company Limited Authorised Insurers.😊
Liverpool General insurance Direct.
Strange then, may come down to postcode lottery and just refusing some.

Bad news! We have a multicar policy for car and motorhome (car at least 30 years and moho 10)
So just phoned LV and they said they won’t insure new business at all and won’t renew moho policies if their renewal is after (approx) June - the guy didn’t know the exact date

Old gripe of mine, the extent to which vehicle insurers have total carte blanche.

Given the country's infrastructure many of us are dependent on our cars. And in order to use our cars we have to be insured. But insurers can, at will and on a whim, decide not to insure in certain areas, or certain age groups, or certain vehicle types or ages. Or they can hike premiums to the point of unaffordability as a deterrent.

There seems to be almost no duty of care, no obligation owed beyond the one year insurance contract.

So as an underwriter I could decide that a new insurance model, where I concentrate only on pink Bentleys in Chelsea and sod the rest, is the way to go. And at renewal the rest of my book will be scrambling to find other insurers. But there is no regulation, no governance, to ensure that vulnerable pensioner X in village Y will be able to access insurance at a fair price. Even though it is as critical to that pensioner's life as, say, the NHS or heating.

Yes I agree with PaulW2 - we would have expected to stay with LV for as long as we drive - due to the worry of finding insurers when you get older - we are mid 70s

Not just vehicle insurers.
It extends into all areas of insurance.

Remember, at the end of the day, they are inexactly the same business as a Bookie betting odds on the next race.
If they don't think they can make money on a particular race, they will simply not take any bets.
They feel no obligation to provide a 'public service' and give odds on the winner.

We insured a house with a small start up company, paid over the odds, as potentially there was flooding risk (although no history of flooding).
Over the years the small company got bought out by larger and larger companies.
About 10 years ago the local water authority spent millions dealing with the flood risk, so the small chance of flooding is now basically zero.
The insurance company then decided, after 30+ years, they would no longer cover the building.
No loyalty.
No care.
No customer service.

If asked, they would need to say really don't give a shit.
Which might be the only truthful statement they have ever made.

When I questioned about cover for my accessories I gave them a list and this is the reply.

The customer will have cover for accessories and other items fitted to the vehicle such as:

· Fitted Awnings
· Cookers
· Fridges
· Beds
· Cupboards
· Solar Panels

The cover limit for Personal Belongings is increased to £1,000 on Motorcaravans. This will cover the customer for any personal belongings such as:

· Bed Linen
· Cooking Utensils
· Crockery
· Cutlery etc.
· Clothes

All of the items you listed in your email are covered within the policy limits.

Mine renews 3rd June👍😊with option for automatic renewal next year😊

Going to put the mockers on anyone going to Morocco I think LV were the only ones that would give cover.
Exactly. If we are not renewed it might just be the incentive we need to go to Tunisia!

We went to morocco fully comp with LV they would not renew our policy even though we had an automated renewal offer. Would not take the carthago without insurance there. Shame as a lovely trip and the weather was much nicer than Spain.

Who insures for there ?
The same as Morocco, third party at the border. In effect the two are now the same following LVs withdrawal from that market. In ‘marginal’ countries it’s insurance in name only……🤣🤣🤣

I was under the impression LV had become part of the Aviva group ,but looking it's all a bit of a minefield out there
A bit like the insurance factory group aib etc

I think it’s Allianz

At 'their' end, (LV) they are withdrawing from the market but, a 'New' Insurance provider, could say,
and why wouldn't they, that in the face of a claim, the claimant had had a renewal 'refused'.

I wouldn't give the new Insurance provider with that opportunity.
It's not a refusal.

They declined to offer.

I don't know much about how it works, but a refusal would surely require clearly written correspondence to the applicant?

Lexus fitted the blank and a tracker free of charge at the last service

"I don't know much about how it works."

I know even less!

I was with LV for my motorhome however had a claim for rodent damage, my insurance on renewal increased by £200 despite no claims protection. Three weeks after renewal they wanted a further £500! No thanks, so cancelled, still lost £200 for short time I had been insured by them!
Report them to the ABI after making an official complaint to LV, you should at least get your £200 back

I've had a multi car policy for the last few years for my car & mh with LV Direct, renewal due September. Fantastic prices, just over £400 for both.

I rang Tuesday to advise I've changed my van & asked what did I need to do. The agent took all the details & then said they couldn't offer insurance. After quite a bit of questioning she said they were withdrawing from the mh insurance market.

I just rang them, having not read your post beforehand. The guy told me that they are withdrawing from insuring motor-caravans that were not converted by the original manufacturer (to me that reads like every motorhome ever made if they class the tractor/cab unit as the origin). They would still be honouring existing business renewals. Our Mulitcar policy renews in February.

It could mean they are insuring pvcs
