I've been an AA member for 10+ years, but this year they want £119 for UK cover (after I phoned & had it reduced from £163) for myself & spouse and a further £112.35 for zone 2 European cover.
It seems I can get the same cover from LV=Britannia for both of us for all of Europe for £190.
Leaving any discussion of the LV sell-off to private equity (ahem!) does anyone have any experience with LV=Britannia breakdown cover? Or an AA comparison?
Our MH is a Chausson 640 Welcome 3,500kg.
TIA

Our LV cover cost us £81 for the UK & EU in the following countries:

Got to agree that your quote for LV Brittania seems very high. Cheapest ways to access their cover are as an add on to their vehicle insurance or through club rates for Boundless https://www.boundless.co.uk/save-more/lv-car-insurance?k=mss-motoring~all&o=1&n=2 - you can get a quote there without joining. We are Boundless members & can refer anyone interested in joining but would also shop around extensively before committing to anything. Ironically we have Nationwide account for travel insurance cover as well as recovery :)

Are you also insured with LV=? I can't get an online quote that low for both of us UK & Europe from them.
Sorry, I should've said it was not LV ... it's a Eurobreakdown policy ... sorry!

I hope you haven't - but have you ever had to use them and see if they're any good?

Thanks - but for clarity the AA for UK+Zone 2 Europe = £131.35
LV= for UK and all European zones = £190.

I'm pretty cross with the AA whose UK premium for myself and wife last year was £83 and that's gone up to £119 - and that's after ringing them and pointing out that I'm a Gold member with 10+ years membership!

Just really wanted to know if anyone had used LV=Britannia at all and were they any good.

I had a small issue on a trip in September and had to call LV breakdown - I have been a member for years but never had to use them. The people they sent out were totally useless and I decided on limping to a healpful garage, fortunately something minor and soon fixed. LV ended up conpensating me.

I think that LV is good value for Boundless members but the problem with it is that they rely on a network of local recovery/repair people and the quality of these varies - well I assume it does, they can't all be as bad as the ones they sent out to me.

Whatever company you use the service often comes down to the third party they use certainly when you are abroad.

No I haven't had to use them fortunately however when I looked into it I found it's underwritten by Ageas the same as many of the others so what is covered it is exactly the same (and to the same level) as the policies being offered by the more well known companies who are just 'resellers' so couldn't see the point in paying a heck of a lot more for the same thing.

one thing to note is in the event of a prang your breakdown cover will not help unless having heard from your insurance that they will pick up all costs. in my case, I had a breakdown cover via my insurance, but the large recovery service would not even attend until the insurance contacted themto say they would pay for the recovery

Indeed, it’s a common misconception that your breakdown cover will recover your vehicle in the event of an accident. An accident isn’t a breakdown.

Have euro breakdown cover with Britannia and have used them with great results. Couldn’t be happier with what they did and get a discount via boundless, previously CSMA.

Yes - something I was aware of made sure I checked the T&Cs of the breakdown policy before purchasing it.

What is insured?
An electrical or mechanical failure, lack of fuel, Accident, vandalism, theft, attempted theft, misfuel,
flat battery or puncture to the vehicle, which immediately renders the vehicle immobilised.
Accident
A collision immediately rendering the vehicle immobile or unsafe to drive.

Have you considered changing your insurance for one that has a breakdown cover option. We pay £65 for full European AA cover with Comfort Insurance.
But you can't take out the breakdown cover seperately, you have to have their insurance.

Could be that's why I said "have you considered changing your insurance" .

I'm currently with Comfort but have found that NFU is much cheaper including seperate breakdown cover. :xsmile:

I always assumed rightly or wrongly, that The NFU was primarily for Farmers and all their associated insurance needs. They have never offered me a competitive quote, I assumed it was because there aint many farms in Surrey, just stock brokers.:giggle:
I am also with comfort, and like Lenny I have their Euro breakdown cover, but have never had to call on it yet.🤞

NFU branches work like independants so you need to ask branch that is used to dealing with Motorhomes, like Louth or Chichester ask another branch they will either decline or quote silly prices.
