I've heard that you're not allowed to use the channel tunnel if you have an LPG conversion for the heating/cooking on your motorhome. Is that true?

Not true.. You just have to turn it off at the tank/bottle(s)
 
You have to switch the supply off. They may ask to check that you have done this. There must be a switch or handle in (or under if you have an underneath tank) your van which allows you to do this.

No it’s not. The restrictions are on lpg powered vehicles.
