Just entered Italy yesterday and been refused Lpg for leisure use in Motorhome from 2 fuel stations ,l have a external refill point, it appears Italian government may have recently banned this as 2nd station had info sheet in italian which implied this , does anyone know anything ?

Just got back we had no problems filling up lpg tank outside Senna just keep trying

Just try to use a different retailer - may be a company instruction. We managed okay too with no problems.

Always been illegal to fill hab tanks in Italy.
Last time we were there 1 garage refused next one was OK.
Just keep trying & don't let your gas get too low.

Which company refused you.?
We are in Italy and need gas in the next few days.
Most of the fuel stations on the Autostrada seem to have gas
Any info please

LPG service in Italy is patchy, however it’s worth persisting.
I made the mistake of trying to operate the pump myself and got told off by the attendant as it’s apparently illegal in Italy.

Couldn’t name the company ld had long drive so wasn’t paying attention 2nd place didn’t recognise brand but it had a a4 sheet on it hand written which said no Motorhomes thanks it’s not big issue l wondered if it was something new ! Thanks for info l will try again elsewhere.

I think that originally it was to do with fuel tax.
In their eyes you are getting habitation fuel instead of motoring fuel for the same tax.
2 options.
Lie and say it is for engine.
Get off the autostrada where they couldnt care less

Either way. Enjoy

We haven’t had an issue filling with LPG in Italy ourselves.

I think it’s luck of the draw, depending on the service station you go to

Our experience is the further South you go the easier it gets. We were refused in Milan, but we tried again near Pisa and he just asked "engine" and I said yes and he filled it. Next time South of Rome they filled it up without saying anything.

We were told they couldn’t sell if it was used for cooking. Only generally available when the station is manned as it needs attendant service.
Refused at a couple of stations in north, did find one so keep trying, pick the right time, turn off bottles beforehand (if you generally do) and put the right adapter in to the filler. I stood in front of the gas locker too.

You have to just keep trying...........................the reason many refuse is because they had a fire and I believe some fatalities caused by some clever "I know better tosser" who had a fitting to refill a normal cylinder without the safety 80% cut off in "proper" refillable cylinders.

We did notice going through Italy last month that the gas pumps were in locked cages on the forecourts. We will just have to remember to fill up before we leave Greece on the way home in July. Although it’s expensive here, around 81c a litre!
