I always use to be able to press the back arrow at the top left of the page to take me back to the section of the site that I was in. This function seems to have gone awry and I can only get back to the last thread I read by using the scroll bar and then clicking on "recent".

What am I doing wrong?

Absolutely no idea! But you could try doing what I do................
SHOUT at the blxxxxy thing and tell it that it’s days are numbered unless it behaves.
Failing that, thrash the thing with a whip.
:D:LOL::confused:;)

You are clearly from the Basil FAwlty school! Tried all that and, as usual, it didn't work.

Banking programs often disable the back arrow, try shut down and start again.

Yes,I’m a cross between Basil Fawlty and Victor Meldrew........there’s no hope!
But sometimes it really does work! .............or not:D

Try back dating to a time before you lost the arrow. It should not affect your data but will remove any apps installed during the period after the date you choose to backdate to.

Are there simple idiot proof ways of doing this? I an cr*p with computers,

Hilldweller, thanks, I have tried that - the on/off switch is the only thing about computers that I understand but it did not work this time.

Difficult to pin down precisely but I am guessing you mean the back arrow that is part of your browser you are using. If the usual turning on and off aren’t working, try either re-installing your browser software, or install and use another browser.
Try an internet search to see if this is a known fault with a fix for your browser.

How to Restore Your System to an Earlier Point

  • Save all your files. System Restore operation restarts the computer.
  • From the Start button menu, choose All Programs→Accessories→System Tools→System Restore.
  • In Windows Vista, click the Continue button or type the administrator’s password.
  • Click the Next button. A list of recent restore points appears.
  • Choose the proper restore date.

Thanks for this. I will wait for one of the younger generation to appear before trying it though aas I am not that confident with these things!

If the setting "open in new window" has been set then it would not see there being any "back" option as available.
