London Traffic in 1946 Oh How Things Have Changed.

And here's me thinking dash cams were a modern invention.😎😎😎

That at dryad is a VERY good point... obviously choose route carefully..

1946, I expected to see more signs of the war that only finished a year or so before. Saw one gap in the buildings and a couple of guys in uniform. Thought some of the car mudguards would would still be painted white for the blackout. Certainly does not look like a country that had endured such an ordeal.

So in spite of La La London getting £100s per capita more than the real world in transport infrastructure journey times are still the same. 😁

How things have changed, no litter, no sign posts, no paint all over the roads, few cyclists and no scooters, no ulez nonsense 👍
I wonder what citizens of 40's London would make of it today ?

I think in those days there were more pedestrians killed than there is today. On the brighter side there were no 20 something year olds driving Audis' (y)

It's changed a bit, but the route between Tower Bridge and Picadilly is still completely identifiable 65 years later.

You would be pushed to overtake a horse and cart with a double decker bus on Tower Bridge these days, the road is narrower now.
There are a lot more taxis in 1946 than there would be today, and I suspect more busses as well.
There would also be a lot more cyclists today, many times more.

I don't know about more taxis. When I drove up to town every day, what sticks in my mind are the days the taxi drivers were on strike. Absolute pleasure to drive around.

The first thing I noticed was how clean and tidy it looked. Didn’t the policeman even pick up a piece of litter?
No fast food establishments in those days i would think, is at least part of the reason.

Love these old vids and watch a lot of em
Born 1949 facinates me how things have changed, and in some cases not.

Bit later than ‘46, but completely different from today. Facebook post in local Surbiton group
