We are looking to go to a rock concert at the O2 in London in December. Which is the best campsite in London, both for getting to the O2 and back late at night and getting into the centre of London as we going to make it a very long weekend

If you go to the Caravan Club site at Abbey Wood you can get the train from Abbey Wood station that goes through Charlton. Abbey Wood station is about 0.5 miles from the site.

From the O2 website "Charlton mainline station is closest to The O2. Catch a 161, 472, or 486 bus to North Greenwich station from there."

CC Crystal palace. nice area in itself..the triangle down the road with plenty of restaurants etc.....

Overground

  1. Crystal Palace
    18min - every 30 minutes
    £3 - £4

  2. Canada Water Underground
    4min - every 5 minutes
    £2

  3. North Greenwich Underground

  4. The O2 Arena

@colmorangie Just be aware, both these sites are within the London Low Emission Zone..

if unsure, check you vehicle here BROKEN LINK

We always stay at Abbey Wood. It's great for London although the train fare has gone up.We go to loads of shows and getting a late train back is no problem.Just make sure you have the security nos for the gate as you won't be able to climb it at mid night!!

We have plumped for the Crystal Palace site. I have checked our van for the emissions and it says our vehicle is OK. I will do more research on the trains / buses nearer the time, but if push comes to shove we can always call a taxi!

Can anyone tell me what the charge is ?
I can only find the charges that apply to NON compliant vehicles and nothing for compliant ones

Techno - there is no charge for compliant vehicles unless you're going through the congestion zone as well, of course.

Just returned from Crystal Palace CC site, which is our favourite for London as the No.3 bus for Central London leaves from within 300 yes of the site.

However, the staff there informed us that the lease for the site expires in February 2018 and the local Council are unlikely to renew it as they want to use the land for housing.

Pity. It's a great site. We prefer it to Abbey Wood.
