loire valley route

hi all
thinking of doing the loire Vally from Gien to Nantes in a couple of weeks........worth doing ?, any tips on what to see, were to stop, best roads etc......thanks

I’ve only ever crossed the Loire and not followed it (tell a lie, we cycled from Nantes to the Atlantic as part of La Vélodyssée route Roscoff to Spain) but have visited Saumur a few times.

Apart from the excellent château, wine cellars and underground mushroom galleries, it is home to the French mounted (cavalry) corps, with several shows a year. There is also an excellent AFV Musee des Blindes with the worlds only functioning Tiger II. I can recommend that rarity in France, a decent steakhouse, Keating Steak & Wine House located in the heart of the old town - eat outside on the square if the weather is good.
