Hi All, I want to have a discussion about drop in lithium batteries. According to KS-Energy their batteries are drop-in replacements and no need to change anything on your van including no need to fit a B2B. According to them the wiring voltage drop will prevent high current charging. Which I agree will happen, putting high current through wires will increase voltage drop and limit the current, but will also warmup the cables. For me this is the opposite of what I have done in all years working in electrical engineering.
So, this is a what do you think question. I have already got B2B fitted and all correct, but I am getting a lot of question on other platforms so thought it’s a good topic to have here.
Would you be happy with KS statement and not fit a B2B. Bearing in mind the lithium battery they are selling can take 100A charging current?
I have emailed KS -energy to see if they will give a written guarantee for my wiring loom if I drop in one of there lithium batteries. Still waiting for a reply
😁

It’s the alternator that might burn out and not just the wiring.

I wouldn’t fit one without a B2B.

No, B2b everytime, with the correctguage wiring dependent on b2b and length of cables, cuts out all sorts of complications esp if you have a euro smart alternator

I added new wiring and a 50A Votronic B2B when i fitted my 200Ah KS-Energy battery

There is a really good recent article by eddievanbitz somewhere, I'll see if i can find it...

Here you go

Cheers

Thanks will have a read of this.

Just to point out I have fitted a B2B and would recommend doing do, but as a manufacturer a lot of people would say KS is correct and rightly so as they should have done all the testing. however i have not seen any of there testing unlike sterling which I have

Thanks just read this and exactly what I thought. I do wonder if anyone has dropped in lithium as stated by manufacturers on old van wiring and if you have burnt out anything. If so have they tried to claim on the supplier for any repairs
