Hi all.
I've noticed a small leak on the corner (I think) of my whind out skylight.
I've watched a excellent video on how to remove it, repair it and refit it. Only problem is. It does say what sealer they used. I have decided to remove and re-seal all the panels on the roof (where sealer is present)
I'm under the impression 1. To reseal panels - use a setting sealer.
2. Skylights - Remove skylights reseal with none setting sealer.
Question- is this procedure correct ?
And which sealers are the best to use for each job?
Thanks Lee.

I have always used Sika SikaLastomer 710 which is a non-setting butyl sealant and is as sticky as hell so seals very well.
Used it again recently to reseal one of our roof vents that had been factory installed using silicone which had failed and to install our Maxxfan Deluxe.

We replaced the sealant on our popup rooflight recently. After much thread reading and confusion with the numbers….

I found out that Sikaflex 522 is an updated 521.
The 521/522 is basically same as 221 but developed specifically for motorhomes.
I bought the 522.
We have a PVC with corrugated roof, Just about had enough in one tube to do a 40 x 40 cm rooflight, and husband used some spare bits of plastic to infill the roof channels.
Probably best to get too much rather than too little.
I found some locally for sale in a caravan accessories shop.

I’ve used Puraflex 40 from Toolstation for above 10 years ( half price of Sikaflex ) never had roof lights or anything leak. 👍

Puraflex 40.
Is it setting or flexible ?
I think from what I've read thus far.
I need two different types.
Setting to replace aged sealer to the panel joins
And
None setting for removal of skylights.
Is this correct ?

I use it to seal or stick anything on the van - A good scraper will cut through it if you need to remove anything or a buzz saw with a sharp blade makes life easier these days 😉

Ditto, although I did a couple of skylights using the mastic strip to bed the lights down to the roof then went round the edge with puraflex40…

Whenever I do I stick together two pieces of blue slate that adorns my front garden and keep them in a spot out side in full sun and rain weather and I check them periodically and one I did 7yrs ago is still good…
