I spent the day round Wissant Aire , nothing special, no water but grey and black dump. (I didnt need them)
Was quite busy when I arrived about 1pm, had a little local lunch visited the beach, walked round the small village and took the dogs out for an hour.
Decided before tea to head to LE Touquet Aire. BIG mistake, not checking first.
there must have been easy 5000 vans, (not exgaerrating) & overlanders, self builds, all on the streets, verges, sites, car parks, and literally anywhere they felt like all in and around the town. Very tight squeeze getting through as some folk think vans can bend ::bigsmile: .

Looking it up it seems there is a motorcross event this weekend , and all of france has descended here, soem are even parked in peoples front yards, (they must charge $$) . No where to park for me so off I headed 10 miles south to Stella Plage...same lol.

Found a cheeky little park up out of the way , every 20 seconds a van passes looking for a space,
I came away without a plan, just GO!...but I will do a bit of research before my next move :) still lunch was lovely :) sun was shining and Ive got tomorrow to look forward too.

edit link direct to the event

My RM 400 and red rocket days have long gone but I used to love it

That beach seems a perfect spot for launching a dinghy and aiming for them white cliffs just opposite ::bigsmile:
yeah come to think of it there seemed to be a boat club or somthing going on. I wouldnt trust any of the craft they were training in though

Wow, I would have loved to have seen this event. I was never any good, rode an IT 175. Is this an annual event?

seems to be, and moves around by the looks of things. I didnt get chance to speak to anyone, I was busy getting my 2.35m van through 2.4m gaps . :talking:
Looked like a proper MASSIVE event, £££ for the village obvs so good for them.
Couldnt move for monster energy stickers and jackets ;)

While you're round there, Berck Sur Mer is a scruffy aire but interesting to see the Seals. And Le Crotoy is a nice stop ( we were there last week) prettyish coastal town, lots of seafood sellers and restaurants, Huge aire with a view over the Somme Estuary and great for Cycling/walking in the bay.

Was there any evidence of invaders at Wissant? It used to me a popular stop but apparently became the beach of choice for launching.

It's the biggest event on the beach race calendar. In the UK the big one is Weston Super Mare in October. It's well worth the journey to see it.
