Hello
I’m having a fab time on my big trip, but would like some advice! Im
Currently in Chur ((Switzerland) and would like to drive to St Moritz tomorrow on my way to Como. It looks a bit ‘hairpinny’ on the map, so I was wondering if anyone has driven this road and could give me any advice?
Also, I’m writing a blog if anyone is interested - www.lucyslogbook.com
And I found a very cool App to track my progress - does anyone else use it? Polarsteps. You can also just go on the web and look up www.polarsteps.com/lucytardrew.
Finally, a couple of niggly things......my Dometic fridge beeps, but only until it reaches the desired temperature. I’ve read the threads about it and am thinking that it might be condensation in the light area, but can someone help advise how to get the cover off, as I don’t want to break it?!
Also, does anyone have a good solution as to how to stop the loo looking like the Andrex puppy has played with the loo roll after a long journey?? Am currently using a headband, but there must be a better solution?!
Thanks in advance!
Lucy

There are two routes Chur/Como

One is via the San Bernardo tunnel.
This is fine for even articulated trucks

The other is via the east coast of lake Como.
far nicer and more interesting
Personally I like all the hairpins and as long as you are a confident driver, you know how to use your gears for breaking and have a decent engine with enough power to keep up with the traffic then it's a classic Alpine run over the Splugen Pass,

You'll be very proud of yourself once you have done it.
There will be many other passes to follow

The tunnel is for wimps.

Nice blog. That Gloria sounds like a right character! Great info in it, cracking photos and even a controversial chemical toilet video. (That black waste didn't go down the grey waste drain did it?)

Regarding the bog roll I usually just keep it in the cupboard. Usually pretty good for help with fridges here, throw up a pic of your cover so people know what you've got.

Enjoy the rest of your travels, pretty sure there was someone on here not so long ago asking about a good place to blog. Yours looks pretty slick. Saying that it was maybe you that was on here asking

(y) for Polarsteps App... nice & simple to use, easy for friends & family to keep track of you and not too demanding of you, the traveller.

I went to ST Moritz on a bus and that was in Ski Season, so I guess if they can make it you stand a chance😂😂

Having just read some of your Blog, please ignore my earlier comments about you needing to be a confident driver. I've just seen what you do as a day job!
Controversial I wonder if the comments woUldale have been made if the title was solo traveler and it it was signed Allan.

:unsure::LOL:

Rather than dismantling anything try dispersing any condensation with a hair drier, we had a similar problem and the hair drier solved it.

Brilliant, thanks for the encouragement! I’ve just arrived in St Moritz via the alpine pass and am feeling mighty proud of myself. Quite enjoyed it but there were a few sweaty palms moments!!

Haha 😂 - yes, but Jumbos don’t have to negotiate mountain passes!!!

Hairdrier?????!!!! Nothing posh like that on board Gloria!!

Everyone who travels to Germany can relate to your Blog about the autobhan. You need at least half a mile of clearance before you step out but guaranteed as soon as you get into the overtaking lane there will be a high powered German car doing a 100mph right behind you. Its not for the faint hearted!

They give you a friendly wave when you pull over to let them pass
Well that's the way I interpreted the hand signals anyway
If you can get up to 30 on the autobhan south of Stuttgart your doing well

I’m now in St Moritz and it looks like I have to drive over Maloja pass to get down to Como. This looks steeper and I’ve seen some unnerving write ups about it.......has anyone done it who can help allay any fears?!

Just take your time and use your gears to save using your brakes so much.
Watch out for large vehicles coming up the pass and be prepared to slow down/stop to avoid meeting them on a bend. (They may be sounding there horns on the way up to warn you anyway)

Rule of thumb on Alpine passes, the ascending vehicle has right of way.
