Hi

I have just moved from a 2010 Swift Conquerer Caravan, this had 12v sockets at the front and back of the van as well as a couple of USB sockets.

Imagine my surprise when looking for something similar in a 2016 Motorhome and I can only find 1 12v socket, apart from one in the drivers cab.

Is this normal?

In most of the other motorhomes of similar age I looked at, I noticed they all had USB charging sockets and a couple of 12v sockets as well.

Our Burstner only had one 12v socket ( apart from 3 in the cab) situated next to the tv. I fitted 2 more, either side of the bed to charge phones and tablets.
I could probably fit another couple, but they would be the clip in sort that attach to the spotlight rails.

They`re pretty easy to DIY retro fit, but yes suprising your 2016 van doesn`t have them as standard

2016 Autotrail, same story - just one usb socket in the hab area and it’s not live when driving. A joke for a 6 seat, 6 berth van.

I’ve had a double usb socket, and 2 12v sockets fitted. All permanently live. The ones by the travelling seats in the hab area are wired off the engine battery, as they’re mostly used when driving.
A 12v socket down back comes off the leisure batts.

How much did this cost?

it seems like any socket I ask my dealer about is, oh that would be £200! ?

Spotlight rails?
Made by Dometic and similar to this.

The lights clip onto the bus bar and can by moved along the bar or removed.
You can clip in usb sockets too

Our 2015 Hymer had only one 12v socket where the TV point was. The two in the cab are useless because they are on the ignition switch.. But it was one of the things on my checklist and when I spotted it I got the dealer to fit another four as part of the deal.

As others have said it is a simple thing to add more. In the Hymer I added a couple more once I had used it for a while. I also added a couple on my previous motorhome.

You’ll have to stay away from the dealer! I’ve never been back to mine since they wanted nearly £300 to remove the swivel from my drivers seat and flat-out refused to install a near-side drain from my grey tank!

I paid £24 each for the sockets, £20 for connectors and £115 for Labour. This was at the NCC approved workshop I use for all my work; servicing, warranty & upgrades.

I have these as well and they are great.
You can move them around anywhere on the rail.
Bought them from Germany IIRC.

It's a German van so you get a good well built solid van for the base price and order the extras you need. That way you only have to pay for the things you want. So you could have ordered more when you ordered the van or do what most of us do fit them ourselves as its far cheaper than a factory fit option.

my van came with 2 in the cab, 3 in the back. I added another in the front and 4 more in the back plus a multiway splitter by the front tv. They all get used to charge phones and tablets etc during the day, making use of the solar panels

I think I can add some easily directly to the batteries, as they are housed in a small seat behind the drivers seat.

i will figure out how to get some in the bedroom.

it is not a great problem as the van has 240v sockets all over the place but the couple of times I know I will be off grid, I need To get something sorted! ?
