I'm booked in for a bit of upgrading in a few weeks and part of that is dropping in a couple 125ah KS compacts.

I know they have the bluetooth feature so I presume you download an app and you can use that to find all the info. What information does it tell you? Is it accurate? Any screenshots?

The reason I ask is because I bought a couple Victron battery smart sense units before my old batteries went duff. Is there any point sticking them on during install?

I like the Victron connect app for readings from my shunt and MPPT but will it all be a bit redundant now with the KS app?

i have a 200amp KS battery and find the app OK see photos below

Cheers Rogerwyn so all the info is there if not as user friendly as the victron app. If the smart senses don't interfere at all I may well just stick them on. If not I'll stick them up on the classifieds.

If you down load the app I think there’s a demo run.

The use of the Victron stuff like SmartSense and SmartShunt, apart from giving the user information, is that its data can be used by the Victron chargers to control the charging voltage and current, and sense the battery state so there's no overcharging. Also with lithium it can stop charging at low temperatures.

Some battery BMSs have been tested to provide that info to the Victron stuff, see the compatibility list. Others have not been officially tested but are known to work. I think the KS Energy batteries are not on this list (yet). So if for example you want the Victron chargers to avoid charging at low temperatures, they will need to know the battery temperature. I know the battery BMS will cut off, but In my view that should be a last resort, and the chargers should stop before the BMS cuts off.

So it may be an idea to use the sensing devices you have to inform the Victron stuff what is happening.

I have a 205Ah KS energy underseat battery and have a Victron SmartBatterySense on it too it inform the Victron 75/15 MPPT and Victron 15A Charger about battery temperature via VE.Networking to prevent charging at temperatures <5C. My Votronic VCC-12-50A B2B has its own independent temperature sensor on the lithium battery to prevent charging at low temp

Alan has a 150 amp hr KS energy, there’s either a fault with the app or the battery as the discharge gets to roughly 65 percent then jumps to zero, shortly after he’s no power. The same when charging, goes to 30 odd percent then jumps to 100 percent. KS energy seems to think by screenshots this is normal. £75 charge to inspect it, refundable if found to be faulty.

That seems a bit harsh Sandra, in there no guarantee on it.
That doesn’t seem normal to me.

Definitely doesn't sound right to me. My readings on the app aren't 100% bang on but they're never far off. I'd sent it off to them.

Good news. KS Energy has been acquired by Li-gen Ireland. Li-gen are a dynamic and larger manufacturer and supplier of lithium batteries and associated products based in Co Tipperary. We have a bespoke manufacturing facility and a team of engineers as well as outlets both in the UK and Europe. We will continue to offer an excellent range of KS Energy lithium leisure batteries, we expect to expand this range in time and the level of support we can offer, and we will certainly be honoring all existing warranties.

The app has always been a little "clunky" but does its job, but as for jumping form 60 and 30 , Id send it off (or rather have them collect) if still within warranty

Do all the cells show the same voltage when it drops?

I was thinking of getting a battery off KS Energy as they are fairly local to me.
I am glad I have read this before making my decision, I think I will try elsewhere.

Each to their own but I wouldn't let this thread put you off. Mine have been fantastic.

and me, ran great and cut out when they went below temp by accident.

Batteries may be ok but £75 to look at a problem doesn’t exactly seem like good customer relations to me.
yes but refunded if it is an owner problem, standard practice in high value bulky items that prove to be ok "over the air"

Sorry Tombola but i have to disagree with you, that is not standard practice with a firm that has good customer relations. (y)

Another benefit of fitting the SmartShunt is it will give you an overall picture of the battery bank. When you have a pair of batteries, each with their own BMS based Monitors, you have to log into both batteries and do some mental maths to see the overall picture. That is done for you with the SmartShunt.
I've also found the Victron monitors are a lot more reliable than some battery BMS Monitors!

Ok these first ones were taken at 10.09am

What does the voltmeter say

Edit....maybe worth disconnecting and completely discharging and then fully charging ?
Stupid question but you do.have the right app don't you..I downloaded the wrong one at first and had to download the one for the "compact range" or summat. Version 2 I think. It does say which on the online instructions.

Been there with the app and fully discharge, firstly cleanly reinstalled version 1, made no difference, took off 1st version, cleanly installed version 2.0 which picked up zilch voltage and zero percent despite the app being connected. So many emails and screenshots with time stamps showing yet KS energy seem to choose to disregard this and just look at it showing healthy battery. They have no idea just how much ofour holiday this has taken up with constant monitoring, taking screenshots, sending emails. I’m sorta glad “my” van only has gels 👍
