This is in particular relating to a QR code on a COVID vaccination certificate'

I have a QR code on the certificate.

I also have printed information alongside, but that is deficient in that it does not print out my surname and is also in Polish, whereas the Austrian authorities require it in German or English.

My questions are:-

1 Does the QR code contain the information missing from the print-out?

2 In another country does the QR code automatically show the information in the local language on their reader, or do I need to get a full printout and translation?

What happens when you scan it using your phone's qr code resder - what does the page it links to say?

QR codes are simply encoded shortcuts to web pages. They will not give access to private personal information

When you open your phone with the QR code your name, dob, both vaccine details are all on it in English and that’s the important bit. Doesn’t help you I’m afraid.

You have the option to download a PDF copy or even an offline copy by email which I will do once I finally travel. I presume you will have to pay for an official translated version in English or German.

As big map says the QR codes are just encoded short cuts so could be in any languague. I open my phone and hover over a QR code to login at the vaccination centre where I work. It then opens a Portal into the surgery remotely.

Does a one know if the QR code is required, I have my vaccination certificate in the My GP app there is no QR code.

What is that and where on an Android?

Do I have to use the camera to use it?
What John said. Download qQR app then install and when you tap to use and scan s code it opens camera automatically.

On our medical app here it just states day and dates of jabs.nothing else.no type, batch or QR code.

This is incorrect. QR codes can encode (contain) any arbitrary information, which may or may not be a link to a web page or personal information.

If you download the NHS App as opposed to the My GP App you will, I think, be able to access your vaccination information and have the option to share it via QR code or PDF

Not necessarily, they can contain anything. I have an app on my desktop computer that will create a QR code from anything I like to type into its requester box.

Scan it and see, it's not obscene!

"jumpes"?

I have a free QR code reader on my iPhone but I have to dismiss a couple of adverts before it will let me scan. Does anyone have a free QR code reader without adds?

I went through the NHS system to get my Covid records and QR code. However I see that the QR code is only valid until the 20th June and reading it with my phone reveals nothing intelligible just a long string of characters.

You should have the ability to email it to yourself, if you do that you should be able to read it without any issues, at least I was able to do that.

Thanks all.

I could not find a QRreader App on Android Play nor Google Play, However our friend, also our Dr., assures us the information we need is all there and she is printing out a certificate copy and signing and stamping it for us - entertaining them for many dinners has some side benefits other than friendship. We have 5 doctor friends here, one has just bought a MH, so we are helping out with their 'learning curve' - two-way streets.

I am also still friends with a Property Lawyer and her Architect husband who I knew even before they were both involved in my buying and doing-up my house 25 years ago - she is sending me an agreement to sign today, as it happens.

This is correct. It is most commonly used for a URL. But you can put anything in it even a game.

Yes, the iPhone camera reads QR codes.

the information to decode them is available if you look hard enough - in short you need to Base45 decode it, zlib decompress it then decode it using cose and cbor. Id that's all gibberish output from mine below (with personal stuff removed)

Have you tried scanning your QR code with the French tousAntiCovid App? The app is in English as well as French and gives you an "EU Digital Covid Certificate".....I'd have thought the Austrians would accept it.

An up to date Android phone camera will read a QR code, no app needed. I'm more than twelve :winky:

My Samsung's camera reads QR Codes without any additional apps
Perhaps try that?

Think we're back at the start of this thread.
iPhones' basic cameras read QR code and action the codes

edit: oh! more like the middle of the thread
