I just read the weight limit/C1 thread, and was very surprised at the attitude of the kids borrowing the MoHo for weekends or holidays - it seems that many would got to tortuous lengths to deny the kids the use of the fantastic facility.
Our son does not have a C1 (ours is an Autotrail Scout rated at 4050kg), but our daughter in law is an advanced Paramedic and whizzes about effortlessly in our Boaterhome.
We partially bought the van for taking our grandkids away, but also very much for our kids to be able to use it whenever they want.
They have really got into it, and are paying for the Pendle 4 bike rack on the back to replace the ancient Omni.
They always clean the van on return, and it is always given back full of fuel.

As I was driving 7.5t Ford Cargos in the 80s when I was 23, I can't think of a legit reason for them not to have it?

What are your thoughts?

Agreed - I was gutted that our 24 year old police officer son couldn’t be insured on it.

No way. Our neighbour asked us could he rent our van for a week to go on holiday and we were like no way no matter how much you offer us. We would not let family use it either. For me it's a toilet and bed thing I hate to share.

I wouldn’t let ransoms borrow ours but I am open to our sons using it

It depends …. maybe My sons when they are a bit older but certainly no one else. It’s all about having some mechanical sympathy and understanding how to work it. Not bothered about the bed/ toilet thing.. just want it back in same condition it left

Once loaned our caravan to mother in law and her partner.
Took it to a site and set it all up for them.

Went to collect it and the damage they had done. Never again and the motorhome most definitely never.

I don't have a problem with it my son has used it and my daughter has a lgv2 licence

Ours use ours no problem

My darling daughter drives her car like a cross between Mario cart and GTA. Son-in-law never bothered to get a licence. I am happy to take them and the grandkids on holiday. It has 6 belted seats and 6 berth. However they will sleep in a tent alongside

Not a chance in hell I would lend it to them to drive even if one of them had a C1 licence

Hi.
Direct family members.. Let them drive anything, new cars..This gives the youngsters the experience of handling the vehicle, you never know when they may be needed to rescue you and yours. At least they are not daunted then by jumping in and getting going in it.
First time our daughter drove the Renault Master PVC.( So NOT HUGE...but ) i followed her, coming to an off slip she went very carefully, when i mentioned this, she said she thought it was going to Roll over. :ROFLMAO: Not a problem know for her and ,even the G kids.
Tea Bag.

No, just no. too Heavy handed. maybe if she did a course with me and passed a practical assessment and theory paper.

Sorry, no chance

My Daughter and her family are 'BIG' people and break everything they handle. Only last week my SIL asked to borrow one of my TP Link routers to see how he got on using it for broadband. He phoned the next day and said he had broken it. Apparently he used an adaptor for his nano sim which when inserted broke the sim receiver and the internal spring shot out rendering it useless:LOL::LOL::LOL:
Just imagine what they would be like let loose in my motorhome.

My son isn’t interested in borrowing ours but my daughter would love to but we are too far away to make it a practical proposition. She used to drive Bloodbank vehicles and minibuses so she is well capable of driving it. She has lade claim to it, just waiting til I pop off and get interned at my favourite Buddhist Temple in Eskdalemuir, then she will drive off in it and disappear 🥴🥴

Nope no excuses no reason just no.

But if they were homeless, that’s a different matter.

they would also need to pass various fault finding scenarios and become a paid up member of MHF.

At last an encouraging reply. Surely, she could arrange a longer holiday once a year?

Buy their own like we had too. Start with a tent and work your way up, it’s a learning curve.
We had to wait until we were 40 before we bought our first MH, kids just expect today. Well no.

Well - we probably would although it's most unlikely either of our (now 50-ish) daughters would want to as they either use their own van/caravan/tent or opt for foreign shores further afield than northern Europe, in hotels.

We use it 12 months of the year anyway so it's unlikely it would be available for em ! (Plus the one son in law is well over 6ft and didn't get much sleep during the one night they both tried to sleep in it once, with us in t'other bed)
