When I received info about my Morelo Palace 93MB build spec, it stated that it was towbar ready and indeed, when delivered it had a pack with all the parts to simply plug into the chassis mounted connection box to feed all the towbar electrics (I've checked underneath and they're all there OK).

The only bit I'm missing is the metalwork so I thought to see if this was something I could obtain and have fitted locally here. Has anyone an idea of the manufacturer of the Morelo fitted towbar or a suitable alternative (they can't be much difference can there?). There are loads online but I want to make sure I get the right one.

Peter,

Meier are the people that do the chassis conversion and I suspect the hardware fit of the tow bar pre delivery of the chassis to Morelo. They may be a short cut to advice?
https://fahrzeugbau-meier.de/
Many thanks Michael, I've emailed them to find out what they know.

Appreciate your input

Hi Martin,

That's really kind of you but I reckon the show vehicles generally don't have them fitted, do they?

The whole thing is slightly annoying as I actually ordered it when we bought the Morelo and Gluck were going to fit it prior to delivery (and had offered a great discount on it too so it was a no-brainer), but Morelo were on their Summer holiday and Gluck couldn't get the parts, so cancelled the install saying it's easy to do afterwards as all you need is the towbar.

Hi Peter

The simple answer is I don't know if they will be showing vans with tow bars but my guess is that Meier will be there with a chassis and that may well have the bar on(y)

Do you mean 'for Morelo's?' because anything just for an Iveco Daily will be for the various van chassis only & not homologated for your vehicle .
(they can't be much difference can there?)
Whatever difference there is doesn't come in to it as you cannot modify them as all now are homologated to the specific vehicle.

Thanks for that. I see there are many types available (some round cross-bar some square) and some are rated differently I think.
I believe that a Morelo fitted towbar has to have the rear body-work cut out in a semi-circle to allow the tow hitch to avoid hitting the fibreglass rear panel (did I say that right)? That's why I wanted to see some photos.

I'll go onto the MH websites in Germany to have a look at a rear view with one fitted to see if that's true or not

You da man! Thanks, Martin

Maybe if it is a Meier product, can you ask if it comes with an installation cut-out template and all the parts (tow hitch edge strip and electrics socket bracket) to complete the job like that, please?

Here is ours Peter, not much help though probably, Iveco 2005 40C17 chassis, factory Concorde fit. Excuse the copper grease someone gave me a couple of tins.

Same bar on each but fitted slightly differently, the black is just knock on trim but the housing for the electric socket will be a Morelo part me thinks.

One says Westfalia on the ball cover but that could be a ruse so will check in the show tomorrow, no more mooching around car park now as it p——-g down.

I don't like the way the back wall is cut into, surely over time that could cause stress on the rear panel especially if regularly towing? Plus having to cut the rear panel for an after fit installation I wouldn't be happy having to do this.

I prefer the way ours is fitted, bolted straight onto the chassis and underneath the back wall.

Gotta be brave Paul, it takes nothing out of the structure as it’s a fibreglass panel.

Nothing out of the structure of the overall van Martin but something of out the structure of the back panel surely. With towing, stress, slight movement up and down, the rear panel could crack.

I guess that why one of them has some clearance and the knock on trim but saying that there should be very little movement.

Yes I know what you mean, it just seems to spoil the lovely rear panel to me, why do it that way when you can bolt onto the chassis and underneath though without touching it, must obviously be too low to do it that way?

Ground clearance I believe.

Martin

Ours must be too low then, it certainly looks high enough, I think we need a measuring test here, can you nip back over Martin in the p1ssing down rain and measure the distance from the ground of the tow ball:LOL:
I will go measure ours.:)

Looks like the top one is factory fitted and the lower one, dealer fitted maybe.

Thanks for the photos, it really helps. Go get yourself some cocoa on me.

I agree that cutting the rear valance would have potential issues (including in my nether regions) but if they do so in the factory then........ what could possibly go wrong? :crying1:

I really don't like the look of the protruding bar version though :shake:

I know what you mean about the protruding bar version like ours, doesn't look as integrated as the ones you are considering but another advantage though is at least you can remove the lot without anybody knowing if you or a future owner wan to lose some weight.
Our Concorde is 4400kg GVW so that is something I have thought about(6.48 metre van), but the rear axle weight is 3100kg and there was 900kg to spare when I weighed it so no need.

Yes the problem would be the wind getting hold of it when travelling, a bit like what used to happen to Mondeos whereby the rear bumper & under part would resonate frighteningly when travelling ( & that's factory fit no cutting etc;) until it would disintegrate . Friend of mine lost 4 on his company car years ago.

Our tow ball is 15.5 inch from the ground.
370mm up to 425mm if memory serves me correctly, the height hasto be between.
