Having travelled to Morocco a few times prior to Covid we are about to embark on our first après Covid trip today. We arrived at Carlos’ office yesterday afternoon. It’s had an upgrade since we were last here but still the same friendly service with a bottle or red and a Swiss roll thrown in. We were disappointed when we realised the price €280 open return to tangier med as opposed to €199 when we were last here. (2019) The carpark is very busy and people have been leaving since about 6.00 for the early ferries. We are booked on the 1.00pm so gives us plenty of time to stock up at Lidl before we sail. It will be interesting to see what’s the same or changed once we arrive.

Well we have arrived - eventually! The 1.pm ferry sailed at 4.15 no explanation. Paperwork seems to be far less than last time filled in forms on boat and had passports stamped. We had a 2hr delay coming through customs though which meant we set off in the dark. I know delays are common place but this seemed excessive. Not good as we had decided to hug the coast and head down towards Martil. We have never travelled this way before. The road is windy and narrow at times and we were stopped by the police and told to turn around as the road was ‘interdit’ Luckily there is a park4night stop at a filling station just before the road was closed so we have pulled in here for the night. Morocco always an adventure.

ok so further thoughts on changes or not. unfortunately there is still a lot of rubbish about although towns and cities we have passed through are really trying with ‘armies’ of road sweepers and litter pickers. Fuel has certainly increased in price and is on a par with what we were paying in Spain, around €1.31l. When we were last here it was a lot cheaper than Spain around €0.84l We also noted that some stations won’t take a foreign bank card and it’s cash only. Can’t compare areas yet as we have taken a different route and are currently in the high atlas having travelled through Chefchauan to Fes Medlet and are now in Gawas. chefchauan is worth a couple of hours ‘blue village in the hills’ we spent a few hours wandering around and had a lovely meal in the Medina 2 tagines couscous and a drink for 100md. We paid 20md for guarded parking. We have never been to Fes before so wanted to visit the Medina. We stayed at Diamond camping for 25md (expensive) and got a taxi into Fes for 20md return. He took us to the palace for a photoshoot and then to a vantage point for a photoshoot across the city. He dropped us at the blue gate and we wandered into the medina. We avoided most of the guides but got caught up with one who led us to the university and the oldest pharmacy. Unfortunately down a dark alley we came across a couple who were arguing and the man started to severely hit the woman. my OH wanted to intervene but I managed to drag him away and our trip was cut short. A very upsetting experience but I am sure it would have been even worse if OH had intervened. We have had a lovely drive over and through the Atlas today and are now on a lovely little site 10md with old but adequate showers and toilets, and looking forward to tomorrow.
