Maybe there is an innocent explanation for the fire.
Smoking in bed and fell asleep again?
Maybe a ruptured rubber gas hose?
Electrical fault?
Not all vans have smoke alarms and the ones that do sometimes have flat batteries or the batteries removed.
I bought a brand new 'expensive' smoke alarm from a local building supplier and put a smokey match to it and it didn't go off. I took it back for a cheaper version and it sounded straight away repeating the test.
Feel sorry for the people involved.

Hi all, My background is 32 years in Fire Service, 12 years (ish) as a specialist Fire Investigation officer (this being a specialism in addition to my normal role) of which 5 were spent as the senior Fire Investigation coordinator for my Service.

I would not dream of even guessing at the primary seat of fire let alone the cause based on the 2 photos I have seen, there are so many elements that could affect fire spread (structure, tanks, insulation, weather conditions etc) the level of damage and remaining structure appears to allow a for high probability that the source and therefore likely cause could be identified by an on scene investigator (especially if there are eye witness reports from the early stages of the fire particularly the female occupant) though I have no idea what level of investigation would be carried out over there (in the Service I worked in we would always assign a minimum of 2 fire investigation officers where a fatality or serious injury occurred)

I suspect the 36 year old (daughter?) was likely to be sleeping in the front area of the MH rather than in the French bed with her father, hence why she was able to get out and he was not.

I would like to clear few things here which are incorrect also in newspapers. The woman who survived from the fire is 70 years old, not 36 like they said in news. How I know it? She is my grand aunt and the man, who past away, was her man, they lived together 40 years. They were out for a morning walk with their dogs and when they got back to their caravan my aunt saw that there was a fire, still I don’t know the details if the matress was in or out of the caravan. Her life partner went in despite of my grand aunt told him not to go there. When he got in with one of the dogs, the caravan exploded and the man and the dog were inside and it was too late. That was awful ending to their story. Now we are waiting to get my aunt back to Finland to recover her injuries.

So there’s no cigarette smoking in bed and falling in to sleep, there’s no 36 years old woman with old man. There’s just horrible tragedy for our family. And terrible ending to their dream life.

Thank you. I got home yesterday from work when I got the message from my mom. Still it’s really hard to believe that it’s true. The life is so fragile.

Some one in an earlier post suggested the Heater might have been fitted under the bed. Knowing the propensity that some have for loading stuff adjacent to Heaters. The seat of the fire may yet be explained.?

I used to have the job of examining Heating Systems in Schools, Care homes etc; for Dorset Council. It was a regular occurrence to find Potentially Flammable clothing, bedding and the like stored alongside Heating Boilers. I lost count of the Number of times I made "recommendation for removal" comment on the examination forms, and went back the following year to find nothing had changed!. Hospitals where even worse, the boiler room(s) being regular dumping grounds for unwanted equipment!. Hospitals and Military Establishments, being "government", are (or where 20 years ago) exempt of many if not all H&S regulations, they are or can be regarded only as "advisory".

I once issued a warning notice to the health and safety building in Basingstoke, I serviced the boiler and found it had no ventilation (open flue)

Agree completely with your analysis, always useful to step away from the trauma when you get jobs like that, so you get a clearer picture of what happened and follow each step methodically.

My guess is simply Shock. After all this is coming from a 70 year old lady who hss has a vert traumatic experience, and was probably fast asleep when it started. Totally confused at first I would guess. I suspect I would have been too.

The boiler/heater in our van is under the bed, not quite in the garage but in a compartment accessed through the garage. It would be a fire risk if the surround was removed or if the compartment was used as extra storage. I am NOT suggesting this is the case here..

We always turn down the heat at night when running on electric and off completely if using gas. Fire / smoke / CO alarms tested before every trip.

The alarms in the house are also tested monthly (they are the mains type with battery backup) and replaced as advised. The neighbours do a bulk buy and we have an alarm replacement party.

Hi MisterB needless to say the 32 years was total service and included the specialism time, also needless to say I’m now retired and enjoying that just as much as I did my time in the Fire Service (especially the pension whilst still in my fifties and able to make the most of it)

I coudve agreed with every word you've said BUT the first version from the relation and 2nd version are just so different, along with newspaper reports. I'll draw my own conclusions! Tragic for the male that lost hs life.

I read in another Spanish newspaper they were out at time of fire , and the man entered in return. Same story as the first version from grand niece. Will we ever know the truth I wonder.
