Plan was originally Scotland NC500 then France then back to NC500 but theres several shots today of deepish snow and that's only Inverness.
Now I won't be in Inverness until evening of Monday 10th January but I have to accept that I may need a plan D!

So Im thinking about Wales, a mix of mainly off grid but some sites here and there over 10-14 days and wondered if anyone had done anything similar, have any must see places, must eat at restaurants or anything they can think of?

Bear in mind the wife is not a good walker due to a buggered achilles tendon, her preference would be shopping all day every day, mine would be out looking at scenery, beaches and exploring and photographing. Also we'll have both our Border Collies.

Coastline perhaps Newport to Wrexham.

No perhaps 🤔 stunning coastline, with hidden coves areas only accessed by foot in some places but few.
Go inland a little to Cenarth Water falls, car park next to them.
Often stop off on my way back from Cardigan shopping.
Tranquility and sobering force of nature.
Enjoy please

yeah, thats my rough sort of plan but probably the other way round as we're going to Manchester first anyway for the sister in laws 60th birthday.

Great run but I really wouldn't recommend Wrexham for shopping for your wife. not what it used to be.
I live 11 miles from Wrexham.

Maybe Snowdonia / Anglesey / Betws-y-coed and take in Llandudno / Conway and just over the boarder / Chester for Shopping.

Have a look at the Ex-pawers youtube, they have recently been touring Wales - looks lovely. This is the link to the first in Wales, then there are about 4 more

Not sure if this helps, but there is a route called the Snowdonia 360: https://www.snowdonia360.com/
Have been to some of the lovely places on the route, but have not followed it specifically.

I'm the same, but it leaves out a dozen of my favourite places.
Lyn Ogwen? Beddgelert? Aberglaslyn? Rhyd Ddu? Capel Curig? Glan Conwy? Glan Llugwy?

It's like someone has gone, "Shh, don't tell 'em about the best bits"!

Follow the coast from North Wales all the way round to Cardiff keeping the sea to your right, and then back up again using Wales' North-South "super-highway" , the A470.

The A470 wil take you through Powys, and as mentioned by tonka, there is lots of free overnight car parking courtesy of Powys CC in interesting places such as Brecon, Hay on Way, and Welshpool.

Just had a look but its heavily family based and activity based and those that are interesting are of course closed this time of year lol.

I'd go over the top of the Brecon beacons via Abergavenny and Brecon.

Likewise I'd avoid the A55 unless in a hurry and come inland of the north coast.

Cheers James

I think you'll find most campsites in Wales are closed this time of the year.

Good link but Im less than half way through the first one and up to 8 adverts in total so far! Dont mind a couple but this is excessive :-/

Most being the operative word (y)(y) I only need one every 4 or 5 days anyway and looking at ukcampsites and filtering for open all year and dog friendly there's over 20 stillopen and thats only in Gwynedd so I'm not going to be too worried about closed sites.

there is plenty, along the north via A55, take in Rhyl, Abergele, Pensarn, Llandudno, Conwy Llanfairfechan, Penemawer, Then off to Angelsey, back out down the a587, down to canaerfon, on to port merion, keep foing all along the coast via barmouth, shell island etc and on to aberystwith and beyond down to the gower, then basically take your pick on the A40 to the m4 and head west, pop inland a few times around swnsea, merthyr etc

Lovely places
few tit bits here
