Hi All,

Just out in the van (2012 N&B Arto) for the first time since before the winter and discovered a small leak coming from the trap under the kitchen sink.

I unscrewed the base/cover and it seems to have a very odd design (see images). Rather than being a simple threaded fit to seal, it has three or four lugs which locate in holes on the edge of the screw on part and on tightening are trying to create a compression seal. seemed to be through these that water was leaking.

Ignore the pink stuff – that was my improvised solution to create a seal using denture fixative (!) which didn’t work.

I’ve managed to stem the leak (apparently effectively) by using a couple of sheets from a plastic bag between the two parts - but need a more robust and permanent solution.

Thanks a lot
Chris

I would have thought it would have some sort of O ring if so is it in tacked
That’s what I thought. No obvious sign that anything is broken or torn off - but could just be a free standing o-ring/gasket that would be inserted loose and held in place by the compression.

Also odd that I should only find it now (we’ve had the van 18 months) since if there’s a missing part it will always have been missing and so, presumably, has Ben leaking all this time. It’s only a small leak though so I may just have missed it until now.

I think thats just the cover to take off to get stuff out of the trap. To tighten the trap against the sink you tighten the screw in the middle of the top bit of the trap with a screwdriver. I think you will find it snaps off as the bit it screws into has become brittle and cracked thats what happened to ours.

Is there a rubber ring seal stuck to the upper part of the trap? Is the trap intact or is it cracked. I had a leaky trap in my bedroom sink in my van and ended up replacing it with the smallest trap I could find in the plumbers merchant. It did require a bit of matching up pipe sizes but has stayed leak free since.

We stopped at a motorhome dealer in France and bought a new trap it's the only bit of hymer in our Chausson!

I think it should have an “o” in it.
To remove complete waste there’s a special tool, I made one out of a piece of Perspex, this is a rough shape.

There should be a rubber ring which cats as a seal between the base and upper bit. Is it stuck on the bottom of the upper bit, or has it perished or ben broken?

There is a screw. But it doesn’t connect in any way with the base part - so can’t be playing a part in tightening it.

No sign of it on either surface.
