I'm new to it
Hi, as the title says is it a good club to join ? This year we will be having our main holiday in August touring abroad but in the meantime we have 5 day breaks in Feb, April and June where we will be in the uk ? Do they offer a better site and are there other benefits to being a member or would I be better off joining something else. Thankyou.

Depends on what you are looking for?

The saes aren't particularly cheap, it will be clean with good facilities but to us always feel a bit regimented.

Have you thought about free stopovers or Britstops for your short breaks - stay at a nice pub or two?

All that said, we are members of both clubs

Their sites are usually of a high standard although the most popular ones do tend to get booked up in advance. Some people hate them because they have very specific rules about pitching positions etc. If you're doing three five day stays and they have sites where you want to go then i would try it for a year and see what you think. We joined last year to be in a particular place and found it fine.

A lot of people complain about their unhelpful wardens but we've stayed in six of their sites and only once had one we found anything less than charming.

Sites are generally of a good standard, but some are very popular and you won’t get on them. As already mentioned it’s very regimented and toilets are often closed at ridiculous times for cleaning - not late riser friendly! I’m not sure what the difference is between member -v- non member prices, but you might just about get your money back assuming you stay on their sites for at least 15 days (some are member only sites). That said, they’re not particularly cheap in the first place, especially in high season. I think it’s still fairly caravan oriented in its outlook (and membership) and most members seem to have at least 3 dogs! In my view the network of certified locations is the main benefit of membership.

I have been a member for many years. we don't use the sites much, but do use the local weekend rallies with the local District Associations (DAs) Temporary Holiday Sites all over the UK (THSs) and the network of 5 van Certified Location sites (CLs). I also get a discount on my RAC membership and they give better cover than standard

As previous people have said it really depends how you want to do things. We do many rallies with the caravan club.We go to different centres and have experienced many events .Car racing events; skittles evening , to barn dances ,balloon festivals Dinner on the gundeck on HMS Warrior to name but a few and holiday sites. There are amazing people that run the events and give their time for others to experience things .We use CLs as they are far more relaxing and you don’t have to turn up and leave at a certain time.Saying that on occasions we do use the main sites and they are usually immaculate.

Thankyou all for your excellent information (as usual)
David & Sally (I prefer CAMC to CCC so I'll probably not renew CCC) Could you just expand on that a little please ?

We really like the C & MHC. We use their club sites and their CLs. We haven't found them regimented at all and the wardens seem to get better, year on year. We really like how reliable the club sites are in terms of cleanliness and provision of facilities.

We also like their Red Pennant holiday insurance and their ordinary holiday insurance. We've made a claim and it was sorted really easily.

We joined the other lot but weren't that happy with their sites, so we let it lapse after a year.

I must admit i like the sound of their CL,s My wife and myself are not drinkers so we are not bothered about on site clubs and like a little P&Q now and then. I would imagine that they will be booked up quite quickly in peak times.

The CLs are quite variable. We have our favourites but there isn't a set standard. If you join and use the CL sites, you will get to know the ones you like. Many of them are now taking a deposit and yes the popular ones do get booked up.

I'm happy with the CAMC. 90% of my travels are abroad but I use their sites about 6 times a year when visiting family or going to specific U.K. events. The nightly cost is irrelevant.
The sites are rather regimented with painted kerbstones and signage everywhere but the sites and facilities have always been immaculate.
I have also used the excellent CAMC Certificated Locations (CL's) which are privately, not club, owned sites (farms, market gardens) as they are less formal and limited to accommodating 5 units at a time.
I was also a member of the C&CC but found the sites a bit dated. Whilst that didn't put me off, for the few times I pitch in U.K. for maybe max two nights at a time I didn't need to belong to two 'Clubs'

I am a member of both, have already recouped my fees for C&MC since my November renewal, that's on the extra for non members and i wanted to use the particular sites.
We tend to use C&CC when we take the kids in the summer again that recoups the fees, also gives us access to cls , css temporary holiday sites and rallies, and out of season for solos are less than many small sites.

As others have said depends on your camping style I don't think either club has anything to offer you cant get cheaper else where

Good sites, well run, friendly. Usually spotless facilities. Helpful on the phone if you need them.
Not the cheapest for sure but, you know what you are going to get.

We've tried both but prefer CCC mainly because we use the CSs (5 van sites), rallies with various DAs (District Associations) for weekends and THS (Temp Holiday Sites). Also you don't usually need to book for the DA meets or THSs so you can be much more spontaneous, so if the weather's good you can go if it's horrible you can stay home in the warm!

We don't tend to use sites though.

Why not Lenny?
Only curious as I was considering the same; joining both clubs as currently just in the CCC.
Ta v.much.
Oh No!!! Dont get him started!, the fees for a weeks stay on a CMC prison camp, would cover all his aire/sosta costs in France & Spain for a year!...maybe longer:LOL:.
I hear a siren in the distance....Quick Duck & Cover...incoming:eek:

Joined a couple of times over the years always had bad experiences with their wardens & don't like their prim & propper sites.
I am a member of the C&CC only because I get the old fogey rate & one tunnel crossing gets back the membership fee also occasionally go to the New Forest.

Without wishing to hijack the original post can someone please tell me which one of these clubs allows you, for a small fee, to dump grey and black water etc without actually staying on the site.
Many thanks.

We only join now for the access to CL’s. Some amazing and very cheap!

Going to one this weekend, £7 a night.

We joined the C&CC to use their Temporary Holiday Sites (THS), very handy and generally no need to book.

Aerialmark For a few extra quid a year, why not do as many of us do and join both main clubs for a year or two. There are pros and cons to each club, but I find that it doubles the number of main sites that are available to me, as well as opening up access to each club’s 5 van sites (CLs and CSs).
As well as having access to private sites and wild camping, I’m pretty much guaranteed to find somewhere in the U.K., whenever I want to go away.
I hear of many people who prefer the C&CC as the wardens are more relaxed than the C&MC, but in my own experience, the most jumped up wardens I have come across were on a C&CC site in Cumbria.
