Hello,

I have a VW transporter camper and my inverter keeps tripping when I use my 600w travel kettle. it was a 6000w inverter hooked up to my leisure battery, which powered extension inside the living area which has x3 3 pin sockets and a couple USB ports inside the cabin. I’m looking to be able to power a travel kettle and an electrical stove at the same time if possible? Would love some advise on how to make this happen.

How big are your batteries , and the supply cable to inverter . 6000w inverter is quite large ?

600w is still 50 amps. It's probably tripping on low voltage.

Probably due to low battery voltage, especially if you only have one battery.
A 600 watt kettle allow for inverter efficiency will take around 55 amps from you battery for that you need 250ah of batteries.
To use a 6000 watt inverter to its full capacity you would need 2700 ah of batteries which is 27 x 100ah batteries and a means to charge them.

The kettle is 600W - 50 ah at 12Volts
Electric heater 1000W - 100 ah at 12Volts
Total 150ah

110 ah battery (assuming 50%) - 55ah really. So it will be flat in less than 30 minutes - even with a first class battery.
Then you will need to re-charge it some how.

Hi, my leisure battery is a RAC 12v standard car battery. I bought a larger inverter as thought the wattage of my previous inverter of 2000w may of been too low. As you can probably tell vehicle electrics are not my fortes

That is not going to work even with lower power appliances need a decent couple of camping batteries

Okay thanks, seems one 12v battery just won’t cut it. Will get a gas powered travel stove amd kettle for when out in the sticks. The leisure battery recharges on the move but appreciate its not enough to recharge efficiently. Also I have mains electric hook up for when at campsites and everything works just fine whilst connected.

is the battery linked to the engine alternator charging, if so then yes..as its running maybe.
a 6000w inverter is way overkil though Tom Stringer

There is a way and it's feasible I suppose but why bother with all the rigmarole of it when you can simply boil water with a gas kettle on the hob?
Also the act of doing so warms up the van a bit

After 40+yrs of VW ownership, it is easier to invest in an unbreakable flask.

heat water on campsite EHU OR gas/heater kettle, that plugs into cigarette lighter for use when engine running and transfer it to flask. You then have a choice of using instant coffee or reheating the, already warm water, for tea.

Unless you have a good, independent, heavy duty, dedicated battery. It's easier to stick to gas.

an induction hob might be an answer, but as everyone has said, your battery bank is nowhere near sufficient, we also use flasks and a kettle that we heat up on either gas or EHU to fill the flask before we set off on a journey. the real trick is not to boil more water than you need, so fill the flask and then use that water to fill the kettle (plus a little bit extra) before boiling it and then refilling the flask, but dont get too caught up in saving pennies, concentrate on saving the pounds LOL !
