Hi.

I drive a VW T4 campervan – a Swift conversion – 1996 vintage.
There are 4 internal fluorescent tube lights, and just recently three of them have stopped working, at the same time. There is a switch which moves the supply from Leisure battery to Engine battery, but they do not work on either supply. I have located the relevant fuse (no. 21) and changed it to no avail.

Could the problem be as simple as the failure of one of the fluorescent tubes – ie. if one failed would they all fail? If it’s not that simple where do I look next, please?
Any advice would be welcome.

No, they should workwif one or more stop working.
You may find they are twin tube lamps and if one tube fails the other one in the same light stops as well....but that won't affect the others.

probably the tubes i wouldnt bother replacing them as the guzzle power just fill the fittings with led tape

I would convert, or have them converted, to LEDs.
Flourescent lights are very power hungry.

Mitzimad beat me to it.

pappajohn tells me the death of a tube would not effect the other lights on the same circuit so I have to look elsewhere for a break in the circuit. Hell! I've no idea even where the cable runs. This could be v. tricky.
Thanks for the led tape idea, mitzimad, but first I need some lekky.
If I can't track down the problem I suppose I could consider getting battery operated led lamps instead. that would be cheaper than paying an auto-electrician to tear the van apart.
Thanks, y'all.

It's possible that one faulty light has caused a fuse to blow, so that all the lights fed by that fuse will go off.

Did you test the fuse to see if it had blown, or did you simply change it for a good one? I ask this because if a lamp is still faulty it can blow a new fuse immediately.
