Interesting youtube video if visiting Czech republic.

There is a part of me that admires the pure balls of entrepreneurship of this company that rides high upon the inadequacies of the local government. To be able to set up fixed offices in more than one location in broad daylight and just print money is capitalism in its rawest form.

Now whether its right or not is a whole other question that I am not going to comment on, that's up to you to make your own judgment.

So do I go searching for a hidden machine, find somewhere to park and then fiddle around with that machine that may or may not work or pay a smallish premium and get everything done for me. In winter I can buy my card in a warm office rather than stand in the snow and cold trying to figure out how the robot works and I guess they speak my lingo in the office too?

But thank you for bringing this to us as I for one will most likely be visitng the country at some time and today I am better informed and I have choices.

If you are over 3500kg in the Czech Republic you need a Premid box for motorways, their version of the "Go Box" we managed straight forward with this but there are also pitfalls.

1/ make sure you know where you can return the box and preferably not the last pay station before you leave as it might be closed;)

2/ Pay deposit and load it with a credit card and then the refund will be in the same format, if you pay with their cash they will refund in cash and you can't spend it once you leave the country.

If one is over 3500 and do NOT get a Premid box any idea what the consiquencies could be?
If one were not staying in CR but driving through is the risk worth not getting one (mainly hassle than costs)

If you stay off the motorways "none" I believe but if you are using the network I imagine they would take a rather dim view and fine you.

Don't know about Czech fines but a few years ago we met a French couple in Poland who had just been fined £1250 for a 100 km trip having gone through four " gantreys"

We still have a Czech Premid box on our windscreen as we missed the last place on the way out . Cost about £40.

What we found in both Poland and Czech Republic was that the tolls weren't just on motorways but also on some random seemingly unavoidable main roads

It's easy getting the boxes as the service stations have specific ' windows' to buy them

Just shows you needed to know the facts before you go, otherwise you leave yourselves wide open to this sort of thing.
