Inswinging door mirror (1 Viewer)

Is this common on Mark 2 Peugeot Boxer based motorhomes? The drivers mirror on my Autocruise has started to swing inwards once up to cruising speed, especially in windy conditions. Unlike the passenger side it has no "detent" if that's the right word, to hold it in its rightful place. Instead, it swings freely through its whole range.

I've tried to wedge it, without unqualified success, and would love to know if anyone else has the same issue. And if so, more importantly, how they've fixed it!

I had the same problem on our previous moho and the dealer said there is no fix so replaced the whole mirror under warranty.
Having said that, I'm sure somebody on here did manage a fix themselves .. hopefully they will be along to tell you about it.

After 14 years, suspect warranty may have expired! Crazy situation though, to replace an entire mirror for want of a detent..

Could it be that the detent is gummed up?

One of my mirrors is weak and that’s due to the previous owner folding it in, and keeping it in all the time it was parked at his house.

I fixed mine by wrapping a length of bike inner tube, cut length ways around each pivot point, and pulling and pulling till the rubber goes inside the pivot. Then cut off the remaining legs. Sorted mine for a good few years.

Interesting.
The near side one on our Bailey (boxer based) does something similar, but not as extreme as swinging right in. Every now and then my driver asks me to push the mirror back out an inch or so. He has tried to adjust it but without success so we just carry on with the manual, passenger operated system!

I can't get mine to fold in (Renault) I've been giving them a spray of AC 90 every few days and might get the hot air gun on them when it stops raining !
They used to work fine, but probably have corroded up inside ?

Sorry folks I am having trouble finding it again.

Basically strip it down and inside you will find the rachet gear that keeps it open you need to clean it as it gets stuffed up with dirt and fluff.
I will keep looking promise.

I had the same problem of mirror moving when driving. Although the whole mirror unit was assembled with several 'click' together panels, I have been assured that there is nothing inside to tighten up. Sold the van before replacing the mirror as the ashtray was full of sweetie papers.

Found this if it helps

I tried splitting the casings and couldn't move them. In the end, I prised off the cover on the underside of the bottom arm. This exposed the bottom of the pivot and a large staked nut/washer. I tapped that round with a hammer and punch and, touch wood it's been fine since.

Resurrected this as taken van on first outing since then! Sad to say the inner tube idea failed - swung round at anything over 40mph. Then tried locking it with a nest of zip ties - same result. In the end, had to use a stick to prop it in the right position, as photo, but not an elegant suction! Vipar, how easy was it to remove the blanking plate at the bottom of the whole unit?

Last word on this. I won't go through the whole saga - I've suffered so that you don't have to.

Unclip the covers from the uppermost arm - do the rearward one first, then the forward one, as the latter has an internal grub screw connecting it to the mirror assembly. This reveals the head of a 10mm bolt. Tighten bolt to taste. Replace covers. If any concerns about their security after removal, wrap a bit of insulating tape around them.

That's it. Job's a good 'un.
