Just seen the van of our dreams. A Hymer DL B584. Doesn't have an oven or grill which is a must for us. The only place one might fit is over the fridge. Just wondering if anyone's had this done.

We have a Hymer, and fitted a microwave above the fridge freezer (works well), as the fridge vents to the rear.

Many of the Hymers come with oven grill combi‘s over the fridge freezer as standard. Just make sure it is one designed for that use.

The salesman thought it couldn't be done but he probably couldn't be bothered as they sell themselves these days. I'll go in with a tape measure tomorrow and check for myself.

Just beware if it’s the Tec Tower SMEV thing you put in, they work but only just. Grill and oven both take an age.

The Thetford oven fitted in the caravan was much much better.

We have the small gas only oven/grill as standard in our N & B Arto. I have to use it and clean it as she can’t use it being too short and it would be dangerous for her. A step would just get in the way. Microwave needs mains power so inverter or hookup so depends on how you camp.

You’re right, I forgot to mention this.

I am 5.10 and it’s still too high for me.

Ours (microwave) was fitted in a cupboard (door removed) which was above the fridge/freezer. Depends on your build I suppose. My wife needs to use a portable Aldi step that we keep in the cupboard next to the fridge to access the Microwave comfortably.

Not after a microwave thoough. No good off grid and can't toast or cook pizzas.

I have a hymer 655 starline and a factory fitted oven above fridge. Wife says oven on van is better than the one on the house 👍

Dometic used to make one with a lift up front but no longer available.
The standard drop down front ovens is very awkward and dangerous to use at such an height.
Best advice is to sacrifice a cupboard or drawers and fit one at lower level.

I would recommend Thetford Spinflo

Our B678DL came with Techtower built in but never used the oven so took it out and fitted a Microwave instead. So yes it is possible as you probably have the gas supply already built in for it😊

We had a Smev oven-grill in our previous van. It was 1kw output. Everything took twice as long to cook as the instructions say. And you had to keep rotating pizzas because the back cooked faster than the front.

The new MH has a Thetford 420. It's still only 1kw and is only an oven, not grill. Still takes longer than a home oven to warm up and it's not exactly cavernous, but it does cook pizzas and Charlie Bigham's Lasagnes much better than the Smev.

Thanks for the advice. It might be difficult fitting an ove below the kitchen on this one as it has wide drawers, hence the need for obove the fridge option.

Well I took the measurements and some won't fit (not enough height) so looking for a lower model.

If thinking about a Thetford Spinflo then check installation instructions for size of enclosure required. They may need to have an air vent below and above the oven.

Is that an over fridge oven?

No - its going to be be too big all round.

Would this one fit?

Or this one

The 525 looks OK. Their "workshop manager" said it wasn't possible to fit an oven but I can't see why not so I assume they just didn't want to bother as they can probably sell the van without doing this. He said first that if it was possible then it would cost over £2000. Really?
I'm left with whether to buy the van on risk of it not being possible and getting my local dealer to fit one.

We have the TecTower oven, the oven works well but the grill is naff. It's a bit high but e'indoors at 4"10 can just about manage with it.
The advantage of having it mounted high is you can vent it through the roof.

If your door is stiff to open it's probably not sealing properly, we had new hinges fitted at about a year old & the oven has worked really well since then. I now lubricate the hinges with ceramic grease.

Well, we've done it. Bought one a year older but with the oven. Thanks for all suggestions.

Hi I am just about to fit a microwave above the fridge where did you take the power supply from
We had a 240 v 3 pin UK power single socket on the underside of the high-level kitchen cupboards next to it, so they just took the feed from there.

I would assume if you do not have that, that there will be a 240 v feed within the rear of the fridge - accessed from the outside lower louvre vent?
