HI guys,

I bought an easyTOP air suspension kit, as attached, for my 1991 Fiat Ducato x290 Dethleffs Globe Trotter, from which I also send a photo of the suspension.

I believe that I will have to remove the existing springs, as well as the rubber stops from which I send the picture, so I appreciate your help, because I do not know how to remove the springs so that after this operation, the kit can be assembled.

I got some answers about the system I have and they say the parade springs look like an added accessory to the aftermarket, but no one told me how I can take the springs and the rubber stops apart.

Suggestions will be welcome what kind of modifications I must make to assemble the kit.

Do any of you have a spring system like this and installed a pneumatic suspension?

Best Regards

You have a very different system to any that I’ve seen before, and the additional pair of springs and brackets would all need to be removed before fitting semi air. The only advice I can give to remove, would be the idea that you will have to completely lift the rear of the motorhome, and allow the rear axle to drop. This is often easier two remove both rear wheels once body is supported. Hopefully you won’t need spring compressors.

Good luck.

It looks like you have extra springs fitted to assist the leaf springs and yes these and the oritbu bump stops would need removing, I would think.

X290 is the latest ducato, not the 1991 version.
Sorry, it's true.

It's a 1991 X280, but this kit is common to the X290 and CITROËN PEUGEOT camper.
However, it is on the X280 that I want to focus.

Thanks for your detail.

Disconnect the damper (shock absorber) then jack up the van at the front leaf spring mount until the wheel leaves the ground. It is likely that you will be able to remove the two coil springs but if not they may be free enough to remove their top or bottom mount complete with the springs.

The X290 footwell is different from the AP video presentation also, no way could I fit the compressor where he has unfortunately.
I will have to fit either under the chassis somewhere, which is not ideal, or fit inside an under seat floor cupboard.
Good luck with that dual spring set up as illustrated on your 280 I am surprised that semi air toppers would make any improvement as you already have more spring support than any I have seen before.
Normally its just a rubber bump stop, and cart springs dampened with shocks.
Let us know how you get on and if the air improvement over the dual springs is noticeable.

Thanks and sorry.
I made a mistake... as I said

I will keep in touch and hope to receive more suggestions and who knows ... someone who has solved an equal case.
