Bought a cheapo macro lens attachment for my phone and tried it out this afternoon. Well impressed enables me to capture insect photos in enough detail to ID them once home. For scale the hoverflies where only 8-10 mm long, watching tiny ants milking the black aphids for honeydew was something I never thought I would witness. Well chuffed.

After reading your post I just tried out the macro setting on my phone for the first time. Don't know what it is, but it wouldn't stand still for me, so quite pleased with the first attempt.

Think that might be a shield bug.
Good photos Stewart J, love the ant one, wondered what aphids looked like.

A few from today I’m rather pleased with, one of the hover flies, a “Stripe Winged Dronefly” again iPhone 11 with a clip on macro lens. Just to add the photos are unedited or cropped.
