Greetings all,

I post this info purely for info.
I hope it helps anyone considering an induction.
Last Autumn we bought 'TILLREDA' induction hob from IKEA.
We paid £35.

We are happy with our purchase and today finds us in the aire at Murcia, Spain directly opp IKEA.
This morning we ventured over the car park to see what we could buy that we didn't really need.
What caught my Yorkshire bred eye was the price of the TILLREDA Induction hob. Yup, exactly the same as ours. The price €89 :Eeek:
So there you have it.
I've checked the current price in the UK. Its £39.00

I got the double Von Shef one from Amazon on one of their lighting deals very cheaply but that is a good price. Even worth paying the £79 in UK IKEA for the double one. Mine fits perfectly over the double gas burner in the van which is a bonus.
Induction hobs really rock

I'm considering this but wonder if it would work in France and Spain where the amps are much lower on sites than in the uk? Sorry if it's a silly question. Mags

Used ours in France & Spain this week on a few different Aires with various hook up amperage.
If concerned just ensure other appliances (heaters, water heater etc) are off when using hob... works great & saves gas👍

Not a silly question at all - very good one to ask

If you have 10 amp hook up you have 2300 Watts available in theory.
If you have only a 6 amp hook up it is 1380 Watts
Add the two together and voila! your 16 amps available….

Keep under those figures by a margin and shut down the electric heat……. Which is what we do. Mine can run on anything from 200 to 1800 so always aware and turn the leccy heating off if it is on

We bought a Tefal single induction hob a few years ago, it is good for low amp campsites etc, as it starts at 400watts when switched on, so no problems running fridge etc.. A lot of the others start at the top end.

Thank you. I'll try to remember that really useful information. Our gas hob is pants so I'm very tempted by this. Mags

Yes, if on hookup we always use ours. The 200w setting is perfect for gentle reheating of, say, soup etc

Hi.
DON'T shoot the messenger,we bought one some time ago when we were c/vanning. Pacemaker warning. If you have a Pacemaker,it is advised you stand at least " 60cm or 2 feet " away from your Left hand side while cooking with it.
Otherwise,great bit of kit.

I just use gas as I’m already carrying that. Why cart around more stuff. Gas hob and a bbq. That’s enough options for me.

I have an IKEA Wok specifically designed for use on an induction hob both at home and in the 'van. I can get it to glow almost red if I want to...
oooooh......... going to look that one up!! I like my kitchen toys

Just bought a single induction hob from Ikea. Works perfectly. Just the job for the MoHo.

I found that gas blew out or the heat blew away just a bit too easy outside, no problem with induction;)

Induction for me to, at home and in MoHo, just be sure your pans are correct for induction. I do have a round steel plate than can be used on the hob and will then heat an aluminum pan or kettle. (not sure that it is recommended)

Seemed to have messed up a reply to this thread, ooops.
Question for those tech minded amongst you, I’ve only a 1000w inverter, would like one of these, would it only be useful when on hook up though?

Depends on the Induction hob model. Most tend to work by cycling between full power and off - so say it was rated at 1500W and you set it at 500W, it would be running at 1500W for 1 second and off for 2 seconds, then back on at 1500W for 1 second, off for 2, and so on.
So in the example above, a 1000W Inverter would not be up to the job.
You can get lower power Induction Hobs though - I have two little portable ones that are each rated at 500W maximum. Either of those would be fine on a 1000W Inverter.
You can also find some Induction hobs that don't do this on/off cycling, but I have never come across one personally.

I find using Induction much better than gas. All the heat goes to heating the food and not most to the surrounding air (the only time I have opted to use a gas burner instead of the Induction was one evening when I couldn't get the heating going, so boiled a kettle for two cuppas on a gas stove and that warmed up the van nicely in the process. handy when it is cold but not much of a bonus in the summertime!)

That would depend predominantly on your battery capacity and what you want to use the induction for.

Modern pacemakers are safe with induction hobs. Check with your cardiologist
