So, having read a few threads but not all of them, due to having an extraordinarily unusual phone signal, can I ask a simple question?
I’m taking that as a “yes” as I’ve had no objections!
If I purchased a all singing and dancing mobile 5g thingamy jig router and mast type affair, would this provide a better service than hanging out of the bedroom window to get 1 bar?

Be aware 5g is more limited than 4g in a number of circumstance.
5g needs direct visibility of the broadcast aerial, is impacted by rain \ humidity \ etc.
In addition there is still very limited availability in rural areas.

If your phone is at least 4g and has a Hotspot facility you can tether a device to it, tablet for example and try that first before spending on a router. We often do this for the web and TV via an Amazon Firestick brought from home. You do need data for this and the more the better.

Possibly, we have been in the mountains in Spain where both of our phones could not get any type of signal but the mifi with our roof mounted aerial would pull in a 3 G.

But when you are roaming you have the advantage of being able to change networks to find the best signal.

In the UK you can only connect to your providers network so if the signal is almost non-existent it may help but still may not be fast enough for your use.

Any Funsters near you with a MiFi and roof aerial that could pop over and see what they get, if they are on a different network you could put your sim in their MiFi.

In theory, the 5G capable router/aerial will be of higher capability if it downscales to 4G when 5G is not available. In practice that may not be the case.

Recently at the Hereford Rowing Club, apparently a 5G area, my roof aerial being 5G ready bur router only 4G ended up being unusable on the three network using smarty. But phone on 02 through tesco worked perfect. Normally other way round that phone gives out in the van whilst the roof is working fine, currently in new forest the phone had no data signal but roof aerial is perfect.

In summary, it's a dark art and pot luck what works.

I found Hereford a pain I'm on Plusnet which uses EE, even with my sim in the MiFi with a MIMO on the roof I could stream on my phone but not if I wanted a full size picture on the TV.
