I'm a newbie
This month we will be taking our granddaughter on her first camping trip to a farm in Devon. The site has nothing but beautiful views, acers of space and peace and quiet, which suits us down to the ground but not exactly paradise for a six year old. So once the fascination of rounding up sheep has worn off how do we keep her amused . Some years ago I arranged a family get together at the same location and everyone including the adults had a great time. The reason that was such a success was there was lots of kids all competing for prises and lots of mums and dads playing stupid games and drinking too much. Yes there are beaches and theme parks which I'm sure she will enjoy but how do we entertain her in the evenings with no TV?

Is it a campsite where there might be other children to play with ?

Good old fashioned board games?
My granddaughter (7) loves audiobooks, they don’t seem to pay for them but not sure where they download them from.
Have you tried geocaching? More a daytime/outdoor activity but it’s not difficult to find one or two in a day.
Pebble painting ? Take some felt pens, decorate a few pebbles and hide them on walks for others to find.

Take a craft box and lots of supplies. Look online for downloadable projects, there are lots around now.

Yes, my 5 year old grandson loves snakes and ladders and also snap type card games.
Dobble should go down well.

Do her a haircut ??

Here are some van friendly, non-messy ideas

Put up an electric cattle fence and play can I get hold of it yet Granny? It worked in Cornwall, on a serious note see if the farmer is happy for her to see what goes on *behind the scenes* If she can help with egg collecting, milking ( bring the cows in) and the general *helping* on the farm will work wonders depends on how child friendly the farm is and how brave she is !

When my daughter was 6 or 7 we played board games with her in the van. I am not a big fan but I did like pass the bomb Amazon product ASIN B00008PW11
the bomb is passed from one player to the other and can go off at any moment. My daughter loved it.

As well as the other fab ideas here Give her an empty egg box and get her to fill each cup with different things.
Let her make sandwiches for you all ( with help)
Daisy chains ? Bubbles in a tube. Swing ball ?In my experience children revel in simple things especially if they are used to electronic games. And you will have fun too

We have been going to this 10 acre location for many years and only once have we encounter one other unit so its almost as good (or as bad) as wild camping. I'm not sure how she will get on with just Nanny and Pops to keep her company with no electronic gadgets. There must be one or two Ex Girl Guides on here that have a few ideas from their past experiences, although maybe the games you played then would not be suitable for a six year old even though she's going on sixteen.

Better still let her cut Nannies hair, which reminds me I must take the camera, Yes I know its sad but I still use an old school camera

Some good ideas guys thanks you very much, I'll let you know if we last a whole two nights or whether we do a ueee before we even get there

Buy fabric markers and a plain white T-shirt so she can make a reminder of the trip. Most 6 year old girls are massively into crafting. Also paints and gloss so she can paint stones and hide them on the site for others to find. For a game we love UNO for its simplicity.

Also get her to do the washing up ! That will be an exciting treat for one used to a dishwasher ...crafting is a definite yes- lots of great cheap things in the Range or Hobby craft to keep her occupied. Recently had great success with a £1.00 packet of several foam gliders [unicorns with wings ] kept G kids amused for at least 45 mins . Teddy bears tea party also a grand game- bet you have a great time and she isn't bored at all [nor will you be !]
