Iceland in your MH

Anyone on here made the Ferry trip from Denmark to Iceland and then toured in their MH?

Just priced it up and with the MH 2 pax, 3 berth cabin with window, breakfast lunch and Dinner in the best restro heading out in Slate sept and return mid October is 3200 euro return which given the 3day voyage (once week) doesn't sound overly drastic for such a potentially special trip.

Would be interested to hear form anyone with experience of using the MH in Iceland (ie roads, camp sites, wild camping, etc.)
Do a test run first, Lundy maybe ?

Campsites in Iceland, these pictures were taken by my son in June last year. He was on a bus tour.
Looks like plenty of space ;)
Maybe lots of space but Iceland do have rules for Camping and Motorhoming you cannot just park up anywhere

Unlike Sauna's and spa's in the UK they really want you to be clean before entering the hot waters and produced a nice humorous video to help explain what is needed

There are other things they prefer you not to do but you can find these in the tourist guides,

The place is simply stunning..
Thankyou for another first hand review.

Checking weather patterns etc I am looking at mid to late Sept to early Oct and taking in the Faroes in the van for a few days on the way.

I have been in Iceland, not in MH but wild camping and 11 hours a day on horseback , my advice would be not to go in that time of year, July , August is best, you want the long days. Never gets dark mid summer, on the other hand, the summer is very short and the rest of the year the days very short, it’s a stunning country though with very friendly people

A few years ago the Camping & Caravanning Club did an organised motorhome tour there. Friends of mine went in their PVC and loved it, had a great time. It must have been written up in the magazine. You could enquire from C&CC.

But wasn't you a Tourist ?

Yes absolutely, and you raise a very valid question, but as in most places there are different sorts of tourists with different motivations and different ways of behaving. Over tourism is a blight that is affecting more and more places and changing some in ways that aren't necessarily to the benefit of residents. Bhutan addresses the issue by insisting on a high spend by tourists. Norway has stopped advertising itself as a holiday/holiday destination. Iceland is well aware of the problem as we have discussed with tourist staff. Scotland doesn't yet seem ready to confront the problem. It'a a sensitive and difficult issue. By the way, as your comment was addressed to me personally, you might like to know that we personally dealt with it as far as we as tourists were concerned by not going back to Iceland for the last few years once we realised the scale of what was happening. The pandemic may well have alleviated some of the problem.
