Just get her a wifi enabled ipad. When she is at home or at work she will be able to connect to the wifi network there. If she is out and about she can use the 3g/4g on her phone to connect to the internet or at a push if she really wants to use the ipad when out then she can tether her iPad to her phone to receive 3g/4g on the iPad.

I have an iPad Pro WiFi & cellular which is useful as you can then use a sim in it.
Find it particularly good when I Europe as we use a 3 data sim in the iPad and Vodafone in iphone if one signal is poor or non existent the other is usually available or better.?

Do you have Wi-Fi at home? If not you will need to make sure you buy one that can take a SIM card.

However, if her phone contract has a good amount of data, she should be able to hotspot the phone to her pad. This means you could go for the cheaper no-sim version.

For normal use it’s a reasonably basic decision between just WiFi based or the ability to use off of WiFi with a cellular model.

As above if any of your phones are on a decent data package you can use one of them as a WiFi hotspot and then you’ll only need the WiFi version which are much cheaper.

Then it’s a matter of choosing the colour and finding the best deal on the latest version.

I find that the best way is to take my wife to choose what she wants, If you do it out of the blue you may get a better reaction.

Go to your nearest Apple store they will give you best advice and you can see what’s out there and suit’s you best.—Simples?

we both have iPads and I’ve decided when/if I change it I will possibly go for the WiFi+3G version although I do tether it to my iPhone sometimes!
If you have WiFi at home and at work and an iPhone the normal WiFi iPad will be fine.

Or possibly talk you into one that's a lot more expensive!!!!
I would cut out a picture of an I pad stick it in a card with a promise to take her and choose one. You sound like you are a little puzzled by the options it's an expensive item to have buyers regret over

The latest ones are 4 G and definitely go for the cellular type to get Wi Fi over the telephone network and as been said gives you GPS as well,

Wi-fi only are ~ £100 less expensive than those + cellular, there’s loads of places where you can log onto wi-fi nowadays, a typical one is McDonald’s, why not drop in for a decent coffee and do as much free browsing as you like.

For me I definitely would have to have cellular, which allows me to get onto internet whilst away in the van. I use for watching tv, internet browsing, emailing etc. Unless you have a Mifi hub in van you won’t be able to use it for anything other than games, unless you can remember to download loads before you go away. Which I didn’t. However does jump up the price.

I never put a sim card in my iPad but still get the cellular one because you lose too many GPS enabled functions with the WiFi only ones.

We have had both, our current the cellular one is brilliant and has worked faultlessly throughout Europe (on vodaphone)

Also makes a decent Satnav (y)

Just to make you "blink". SWMBO`s Second generation I-pad is "playing up" So I goes online to look. I-Pad (pro) (latest version) is minimum 750 Quid. In the USA I could get the same for £519.75. Having said that, there are "refurbished" 2019 Ones at 250 quid on some sites. So if you have relatives in the US?.?.

Is there a reason it has to be Apple? There are some other really good tablets about that will do a lot of the same things, but save you a fortune. The wife did have to buy an iPad over anything else for her business though. She wanted to be able to write on it as a notepad, the others just don't work as well.
