... that I spend too much time researching wild and camping stops during the working hour . Watching YouTube’s of other peoples trips , reading their blogs and pre populating a google map with options in advance . I fear I might not be getting into the spirit of “roaming” but am continually seeking that exclusive “spot” with the killer view.

good job I’m the boss :-)

You're over doing the research

We plan the ferry/tunnel crossings
We only have an outline of places to visit - we look at reviews but don't necessarily take much notice because one mans paradise is another's hell

We have ferry to Santander and tunnel home
our route will include Gibraltar, Alicante, Blanes, Twin Lakes, Little Switzerland

Sadly you are on a no win spiral. Rather than spending your time looking at what others have seen or found, get out there and have an adventure. It is quite likely that the very best Aire, Wild Camping spot or even Campsite that is loved by everyone, is from your point of view as dull as dishwater. Statistically my absolute favourite stop on paper would not interest anyone but I cannot wait to return. I do, like you, scan Camper Contact when leaving an Aire for somewhere 'interesting' but the really good stops in the past have been located accidentally. Life is an adventure and this is one way of living it.
Our route will be towards Estramadura, perhaps Portugal, Gibraltar, Andalusia and head for home after Valencia.

we usually make up our minds where to go when we wake up in citi europe after a late crossing but we will have to plan a bit now theres no parking at citi e

We usually have an idea of our first stop, (although that is often altered as we drive), then go where the mood takes us.

So far we have headed for Portugal twice but still not made it because we got distracted on the way.

We are absolutely determined to visit Portugal next year. Unless something distracts us again. ;)

When we come out of the tunnel, that's the end of planning, no, sorry gravelines is always in the plan then after that France is our lobster :giggle: (y)

I think the difference is that many of you guys are retired / semi retired and I have a limitation of 1-2 weeks . I can see how easy it would be to drift along without the deadlines .... roll on that day

Ditto

Even when we were still working we didn't ever have any plans beyond the ferry/tunnel crossing. Used to go over after work usually on a Wednesday (as it was cheaper than Friday!), stay at City Europe overnight, and then decide which direction to go.

As we don't like travelling too far in a day we invariably ended up in Normandy, Brittany, Loire Valley areas as there is lots to see and do in all those areas.

Now retired, we still do exactly the same just for longer!

Do you apply "what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander" to your workers? ;)

Or is it "do what I say, not what I do!"? (n)

[Do the best leaders lead by example?]

We set off in 2005 for Portugal but also got distracted! Also got distracted for the next 14 years. Yesterday, we finally made it

If you are the boss then you need to do the following:

  • Get the 'company' to fit out the 'mobile office' with wifi
  • Ask 'the boss' if you can 'work from the mobile office' for a couple of weeks at a time
  • Take the mobile office on a two week 'sales trip' to Southern Europe
  • Leave the office in Southern Europe, possibly with the 'secretary' and the Fido, the 'chief security officer' on board
  • Get a Ryan air fight back to the UK for a week and make sure all is OK
  • And then back to the mobile office for a couple more weeks
I'm going to spend this summer experimenting if I can run a business remotely
I think one afternoon a week of solid work with a good wifi connection is all I need.
Laptop and printer
Plus access to the phone for calls and quick answers on e-mail

I do as little research as possible for sites/stops/routes as for me it's unnecessary, besides I find it a PITA. As with others and being retired I just cross the Channel and follow my nose, having a rough idea of heading South 'ish. Or not.
I like surprises.

I recon give it 3-5 years and you will be able to !

Komatsu have had those out for a number of years, started trialling in the big mines in Australia and AFAIK there’s still a pilot in their equipment so it hasn’t took off just yet. One other thing is they can only operate when the haul roads are unaltered for a good length of time. Our little quarry (Marshall’s) will be long gone before available on a smaller scale, that said Volvo construction equipment are experimenting with some smaller driverless dumpers??
