Tim’s just had jury citation for the October fortnight when we’d planned to go to France.
He’ll write and say it’s a holiday but nothing is booked ...
Next time we can go is June next year as Sam will be studying for his Nat 5s at Easter.

Oh no , I don’t think holidays count .(n)

Think they might only consider postponing if you already had sites/ ferry booked. Friend’s daughter did get her jury service deferred until next month as first day was also the day her 4 year old started school.
No harm in asking maybe ?

That's what I'd try, its seems awfully harsh to have your motorhome sitting there all year then when your planning to go away the British legal system trips you up.

Is it a registered letter? Couldn't you just go and say you never got it otherwise.

Be honest say you have planned a holiday (but dont mention unless asked that you haven't booked) and ask if you can defer a couple of weeks.

They only seem to get upset if you try to avoid jury service altogether.

Quick edit to add the planned bit

I had a call for jury service during your middle of our 6 month Europe tour. I went to the web link provided in the notice letter and said I couldn't make it and provided alternative dates, which were all months later. They accepted with no evidence required. You can only defer once though, so make sure the dates you propose are good.

I got excused /deferred twice , once is incorrect

I don’t know if it has changed but not registered. BUT the letter is quite unique if I remember there is a lot of red printing also something like a court address on a return if not delivered ?? If you are close to leaving for a trip just leave it on doormat and go !!!

If you do defer, keep the original pink call up letter. You need it to sign in every day. Yes, the date on it will be wrong, but they don't appear to issue you with a new one.

I did two weeks jury service in August. Most days I was sent home at lunch time. I was assigned to two juries. First, the guy's case has been running for months and he magically remembered he'd done the deed on the day he turned up for court and changed his plea to guilty. The second there was an issue with the witness, so the case was adjourned. So I never actually got to see the inside of a court room. Which was good as far as I was concerned.

Top tip: take a book. I got through several during my service.

Don't worry, there is a procedure for postponing jury service, all the information should be in the pack they send you.
It's quite straightforward and nobody is going to question it or check up on you.
But he'll have to do it one day.
I found it quite interesting to do, out of pocket, but interesting (y)

My son-in-law tried to defer his jury service which was 5 days after their wedding and obviously during their honeymoon. No go he had to return to do it.

First ,as most people know they over scribe for jury service because they know people will be excused also I found the ‘call ‘ centre for information the people on other end VERY VERY rude if fact I complained , not a very user friendly orga

Just go with the racist homophobic bigot then as suggested earlier !

Actually it wasn’t luck first it was a double death in family the same day second I was a carer for my mother of 87 yrs old who needed someone around 24/7 thank you
Everyone faces challenges in life
Thankfully our legal system accommodates that

You should feel so proud. To be allowed to service the justice of Her Majesty is an honour afforded only to a select few.

Chris will tell you, a court room is infinitely better than France.

Tell 'em you voted for Boris...

They are sure to let you off.

Jurors need to be of sound mind!

JJ

That, you’ll not be surprised to hear, is one thing I couldn’t bring myself to say .... ?

He’s already done it once. A fairly shambolic experience ...
