My sensor is a little black hemispherical ball by the control panel. If as you say you don't have that then look for similar elsewhere. They tend to be fitted high up... It could be on the Truma controls I guess. Try putting a block of ice in a plastic bag against it when running.
It also sounds as if the fan isn't working well but that could be because the thermostat isn't working correctly. My fan always seems to operate harder after you turn the heating off until it senses that the heat output is no longer effective and then it turns off
