I’ve seen images of what looked like a S500 series Hymer motorhome dragging a big box trailer (hopefully legally!) so assume at least some models can tow something fairly substantial – info please

???This is the info for our S700 (1992)
Gross Weight 4600kg (5.075 ton) We have a payload of 1220kg but this can vary with extras fitted to the factory un-laden weight. We have lots of extras fitted and still have that payload available. Our un-laden weight on the factory ticket was 3200kg. (Payload ex factory 1400kg).
Max Trailer Weight 1300Kg (1.433 ton) Info supplied by Brownhills, as not stated in any literature as tow bar is optional extra.
It is not uncommon for German vans to tow large trailers while wild parking for the winter in Spain. Everything including the kitchen and washing machine on board the trailer.
Thank you both. Maths was never my strong point.Lenny is correct - 1000Kg = 1 tonne
or approx 2205lb versus our ton of 2240lb
best keeping everything in metric...
But correct in imperial 'short' tons.Thank you both. Maths was never my strong point.
Its the American in you, you converted it to US tons.Thank you both. Maths was never my strong point.
You are probably right as I used a converter online to do the calculations. Its the American in you, you converted it to US tons.![]()
Now I am confused! Short tons? tons? I know the metric tonne (1000kg) is spelt tonne. so the van is 4.6 metric tonnes. But correct in imperial 'short' tons.
Yes.Now I am confused! Short tons? tons? I know the metric tonne (1000kg) is spelt tonne. so the van is 4.6 metric tonnes.
I was brought up using Imperial
14 pound = 1 stone
8 stones = 1 cwt
20 cwt = 1 ton when I went to school Therefore 2240 lbs = 1 ton
Then they changed to Metric
A Kilo being 2.2 lbs
When I run the mouse over the original figures 5.075 ton gives 4604kg (so about 8lb out) and 1.433 ton gives 1300kg. Is the mouse indicating US tons? rather than imperial?
As far as I know the S7XX Series Hymer was built on a 4 series Sprinter.
Thought the old shape s Hymers pre 1995(?) were on merc chassis
As far as I know the S7XX Series Hymer was built on a 4 series Sprinter.
If the Sprinter has a Torque Converter 5G-TRONIC Gearbox (NOT SprintShift). It is limited to a tow weight of just 750kG's.
As for the others, I am not sure.
Try "Classic Hymers" on FB. Lots of owners on their with lots of Hymer info.and what about the S550???
