Anybody taken one of these off?

I am having them resprayed but the body shop isn’t keen to take them off and they need to be off for painting

He presumed there will be a back plate, that would be accessed from the drop down bunk area

I am also hoping there is a joint in the cable

Yes and there was a joint in the cable. Be super quick not to let it fall back inside the bodywork, it would take some fishing out. What I found was the securing bolts each locate into a sort of captive fastener that has been glued into a housing. Taking the bolts out caused the hardened glue to crack although they seemed secure. In the end, I got a bit nervous and let Cannock Resprays do it, magnificent job, rebedded the fastener housing, knew all about it.

Nothing, but confirmed location by cable exit 👍

First I needed to pivot mirror to access screws

Removed cap from underside of mirror to reveal 17mm nut, removed this, then knocked bolt up to release

Only to find I didn’t need to remove this bolt first 🙄 but I could now pivot mirror to access fixing bolts

Now holding the mirror in one hand 🤔🙄 I remove the four fixings, which are captive fittings ( no back plate) to find the cable connection so tight it disconnected before I realised 🤔🙄

All wiring now taped up mirrors off to body shop tomorrow 👍

As a man with near zero mechanical skill I am quite chuffed with todays work 😁 A5137B98-E360-4D4A-AD3C-E8E53F36E25E.jpeg 0442E884-261F-4822-89DA-FFB264AB7E06.jpeg

I now have the mirrors off, but not fully separated, the cable must have had the connections fitted after assembly so that can’t now be removed

The mirror housing has a large Alan screw fixing in the top, both are seized solid and I am worried that too much force may beak something, so I intend dropping them off as in photos above to see what the paint shop say

The arm between the mirror and top fixing has no obvious fixings and I have no idea how I could separate that, it could even be glued joints 🤔

Anybody suggest how to separate it further or have an opinion on whether it is worth the effort / risk

Well done so far David (y) I would say yes it would be worth trying to disconnect completely, I wonder if you could find any connections if you took the mirror head off the arm? otherwise possibly cut the cable and then rejoin if there is enough spare.

I've come to this a bit late I'm afraid but if you could re connect the power to the mirror and
then put it all the way left or right you should be able to see this tab which pushes up/down ?
which will release the mirror glass exposing the connections.Sorry about the choices but it's a while since I had to replace the glass in ours and that van is long gone🙂

A low power12v supply to right connections might work?

Collected mirrors this morning from body shop, in a short break between showers decided to refit them

Couldn’t easily decide which was which , then decided it wouldn’t really matter as I could adjust the glass after fitting

As mentioned earlier I couldn’t loosen the fitting to separate the joint, that same connection also allows what I think are identical mirrors to align properly to fit either side. However that joint didn’t get split, we feared potentially expensive damage so us still seized

That though does mean refitting the mirror on the same side as removed does matter, and in my true style given only a 50/50 choice, got it wrong , but didn’t realise till fully tightened 🙄🙂

Forecast sunny tomorrow thankfully

Also worth noting, anybody doing the same, the gap between bracket and arm fitting was very snug when removed, a coating of new paint has had to be filed off to refit 🤔👍

Photos to follow tomorrow when refitted

Just need replacement window back now to get back out and use it

Rear panel booked for a respray early May, I caught it on a wall at home 6 years ago 🙄 fitted 360 cameras soon after , not bumped it since, decided now I have enough confidence in myself to get it fixed, possibly but hopefully not spoken too soon 🤔👍

Very happy with the mirrors , prepared and spayed £300 for both , but I did have to remove and refit
